    • Confirmation of a BioWare SW MMO?
    • I find it so odd that people always want a WOW killer.  Along with this line people say things,  like was mentioned in this post earlier,  about making the best MMO out there but only expecting just another WOW clone and water downed game.  Um hello people...  WOW is the king of the MMO's atm not matter how you feel about it so those types of comments are just stupid to post.  honestly I would prefer a solid MMO atm.  So many of the games,  most resently being AOC,  have been lack luster overall.

We need a solid MMO to come out rather then MMO's with small populations.  Hopefully WAR will be solid even if it it's smaller at the start then hoped for.  Along with this title hopefully the new Star Wars MMO would be solid also.  Any game has to start solid to become great.  Bioware making a good MMO?  Not sure about that myself yet,  but Bioware knowing how to make an immersive world with some interesting content?  Absolutely.  I believe with Bioware and their distancing from SOE by LA all the while linking up with EA,  like them or not,  being a strong company that is pushing hard to get a strong footing in the online field is are bonuses for the game even before we get to the actual game itself.  Things seem to be looking up for gamers.

      Star Wars Galaxies
    • [Poll] WAR is going to be released with just 2 cities, the other 4 post launch
    • I don't mind this at all.  I would prefer 4 but 2 is fine.  After all everyone will even when all 6 are in the game really only focus on 1 city for each side.  Just like in DAOC people did some Albion and more so Midgard but they mainly stuck with Hibernia for regular RVR combat.  That will happen here to.  People will find an area they prefer fighting at and will mainly stick there will smaller groups or surprise raid attacks happening in the other areas.  It is also helpful to try and keep the people together more so at the start so there is always a lot of action happening so people can learn the game and their classes all the while meeting people and making more contacts in the game for grouping and joiniing of guilds and the such.

    • I would like to see more at launch I am OK with it being less as long as they do things right and will focus on adding the content after launch.  The biggest issue is making sure the classes are balanced.  If they are not and have to tinker with them then that puts everything back farther.  That is when you get into problems,  people pushing professions out too fast and they not being balanced causing more issues and such.  This is what hurt games such as SWG,  The Devs not balancing professions and spending so much time even now still tinkering with the professions wasting time that could be used on other content or issues.  So Mythic saying they are dropping 4 classes (at least for the time being)  is a good thing.  Don't have content is that is not balanced and have to be fixed before other issues while having the chance to cause more issues with other professions because you are rushing the job.  That is not even considering the effect it would have on the players who picked those classes and fell they are not good enough,  have no real role,  or are broken and unable to play well.  Mythic doing the right thing is scaling back to make sure everything is done right the first time and not having to be fixed 5 times later to make them right.

Making the Captial cities such an important aspect in the game demands they be done right also.  So by delaying them also helps WAR.  Though hopefully they can get 2 more cities out within the first few months after release.

One of the things that as always endured me to Mythic was their open and honest talk about their games.  They have always shown how many games sold  and the more important part of how many people are active subscribers and how many people on at one time total and in what servers.  No other game company is this open no matter how much money they make on their games as they are afraid to show any sign that is not positive or inflated to look as such through PR spin.  Mythic has never been (even as a small company before DAOC came out and afterwards)  one to not cost themselves money by taking action against accounts.  From minor problems such as layers brekaing through a zone wall and getting into the PVE area's and killing the lowbies in those starter zones.  What happened to those 2 players?  ban for 2 weeks and dropped from lvl 50 to lvl 17 characters and all Realm Points lost,  with a warn of any more problems and their accounts would be ban.  Mythic even has openly talked about their Dev team failures.  Back near the end of DAOC beta there was still some lingering issues with Left Axe not working.  As this worked differently then Duel weild which the other two realms used it was only a problem for Midgard.  The Dev working on it said it had been fixed twice but when added to the game it clearly had now.  Mythic opening said in their test notes that they had fired the Dev running that and gotten someone else to work on it and sure enough it was ready to go soon after and before the game went live.  Mythic runs their games openly,  more so then any other company.  If they tell you something good or bad you can believe they mean it as they know their playerbase is the most imporatnt part of running games rather then running the players as so many other companies try and do.

      General Discussion
    • Claus Grovdal, Creator of Darkfall and its Lead Designer/Producer and other Darkfall developers CV's.*Update Razorwax AS Bankrupt 2006
    • I still wonder why people are surprised by this.  Darkfall is a great idea but home tech,  even if these people are the best dev team in the world,  isn't advanced enough to run it like they say it can be played.

I always haev and still believe this game is nothing more then an advertisement for the dev team to try and get funding money so they can keep tinkering at it while still employed and use the game and the hype they make about it as a tool to get a real job at a good company.  The problem is they overplayed their hand.  As in most hype you have to strike at the right time.  You don't take your first offer but you don't hang around after the hype fades away hanging on to it after it's peeked.  The gaming industry people can see this isn't going anywhere after all these years so they are every passing month less inclined to offer these people jobs.  They probably also hoping having their own game and high end "titles"  would get them higher level jobs and better pay.  They just overplayed their hands and now are just trying to get something out of nothing.

The game could still come out,  other games have taken longer to come out,  Look at Shadowbane,  that game was in development so long they had to overhaul it's graphics while making it to get it up to date.  But anyone putting money in this development team and Darkfall are more desperate to make something out of nothing then the Devs are themselves.

I also believe MMORPG.com should set a standard for their games list.  Any game that is so many years into development and is still not out,  should simply be removed from the site until the Devs can prove the game will be out within,  say a year.  Five+ years of Dev time is simply far too long to even bother hyping about a game that is not even close to coming out.  Mention the game is under development and have a link to their website but do not have forums up for a game that is not even close to coming out.  What does this do to help the gaming industry?...  Talking about a game for years that is not even close to ready?

      Darkfall
    • AoC Game Director says LotRO & WoW are like McDonalds.
    • So he says AOC is Steak and Wine.  Well That's a good setup for AOC and the differences between WOW/LOTRO.

McDonalds is quick and balanced in favors at all times as it's always the same.  Steaks and wine are much harder to prepare and much easier to screw up if not done just right.  Steak also takes much longer to make then a McDonalds burger.  People who prefer steak and wine also are much more demanding of taste,  appearance,  and the time it takes to make it.  So far AOC only has appearance,  they are still lacking in 66% overall in their service.  They best hurry and get it done right soon.  People who go to a nice place to sit and eat rather then a plastic seated fast food place are much more likely to leave and never come back when they demand and expect higher quality items like they were promised for their meal.
