You can't outright dodge a fireball, but you can use line of sight to cause a spell to fizzle (ie, it won't hit you if you're not in line of sight when the cast begins AND when it ends) and you can double-tap sideways for a high chance to resist a spell.
And I personally like AoC's visual style. I liked neverwinter nights' visual style. Everything doesn't have to glow neon colours to be visually appealing.
Some of the things in this article are a bit off...active blocking was nerfed into uselessness a long time ago. It should also be specified that they're the priest class with the highest -AoE- damage...bear shamans beat them hands down at single target burst damage.
Tempests have stun, not a mez -- this game treats the two differently.
And not all Tempests want to stay at range. For one thing, there are a lot of PBAoE spells for a Tempest (stormcrown, stormfield, elemental fury, call lightning, and totem to a certain degree, as it procs an extra tick of stormfield in addition to its own damage), and feats to reduce the casting time of their bread and butter one, stormfield. For the other, you need to be close to your teammates for them to receive your cone heal, so running stormfield and being close to your allies -- and enemies -- is often quite effective. Same with totem; you obviously want them to be close enough to you to get hit by the damage.
While well-written, I get the feeling the author hasn't played a lot of the class himself.
EDIT: And since all but one of our end-tier feats are broken or useless, the idea of maxing out only one tree as the author suggests is silly; even those wanting to use primarily lightning strike will still go far enough into Thunder for lightning cast to get an instant-cast lightning strike and handy damage buffs like fully-feated serpent ring and fully feated cobra stare (so the stun doesn't break on damage). I've actually seen very -few- Tempests at 80 running around with all their points in -either- tree, because it's much more effective to go hybrid even for wildly varying playstyles.

Now girls is a whole different subject. The younger a female is, the less intelligent they seem to be. I generally will only accept women that are 18+ into any guild I run. Before that, they are clueless.
Now this, I heartily agree with. I'm not sure how/why my parents managed to let me survive those first few years of puberty, lol.
Or, the ones who aren't just looking for attention never let you know they're female. Newsflash. Not all girls want freebies or a raid spot/PvP spot (PvP's more difficult simply because vent/TS is so necessary) just because they're girls. (Or, you know, all the tells asking to be someone's e-girlfriend, either). Drama isn't a one-way street.
I read through quite a few pages, and I notice not one person allowed that the female in the guild might actually -gasp- be good at what she does -- PvP, raiding, what have you.
Get over yourselves. This is the reason those of us who don't want the drama/attention are hesitant to get on vent or reveal our sex. Ever consider you guys are part of the cause of the drama?
