Are you really going spam every single thread, with this same reply? Your assumption isn't off base, though I can't say it's the only possibility. Are you simply trying to set  yourself up for the inevitable " I told you so" post?  Are you baiting arguments from those you know will disagree? Have you simply run out of anything else to say?

Surely you are not implying that people that post negative stuff here and in the AoC forums are going to be silenced by MMORPG or FUNCOM? The game is pretty dog-gone BAD dude. I mean come on...

Ohh yeah people are good to voice their negativity. The problem is that a lot of the time the people with negative comments stopped playing several months ago, so many of their comments are just right out wrong. When a current AoC gamer point out to you that you are wrong, you should perhaps step down and either check it out or just give it a brake. PvP is in the game ,so is Sieges and it works damn well to many (except for those on low pop servers). I play this game for now, and I have to admit that it is much better than what it was even a month ago.

While they have made some improvements, they still have a long, long, LONG way to go to make it a good MMO.  The game is far too thin as it is, and characters are far too limited in what they can do and how they can be developed.

It's the most linear and uninteresting MMO I've played in a long time.  I don't think the game will die, but I think they are going to stabilize at a much lower number than what they originally had.

There's no way they still have 400K subscribers, however.  Only the biggest, most blind fanboi in the world could actually believe that, as they announced yesterday that they are figuring out how they are going to merge the servers.

You must be reading very selectively, or you didn't read the entire article, because fixing bugs was mentioned specifically as the first priority they are addressing before getting to the other things.

      Try harder next time.

Does this come from experience first hand after 2 days of playing the latest patch?

      Didn't think so.

There is a little more than one set, try close to 400 items for starters that just went in for PVP gear.

AoC fans continuously tout the game as being based on player skill, and that gear is largely irrelevant.

Yet, the new AoC PvP system allows you to do one thing, and one thing only.  It allows you to level, so you can.... buy gear.

It's not a leveling system.  It's a reputation grind for better gear.  No new feats, skills, or abilities.  Just better gear.

It's another shallow system in an already shallow and boring game.

And yeah, that comes from experience, Avery.

Now this was a waste of time for you to post this.  You could be playing your game.

But because you need everyone else to like your game, then you truely can't like your game w/out a big community.  So id say find another game.

He doesn't have to care, but those people reading might though. Your post is full of assumption and irony, if it bothered you that much why even counter it? Little silly don't you think? You cared enough to reply.

Thanks for the post OP, right on topic and a good insight into the current community feelings. Same thing sprouting up on a lot of other forums too. From IGN to TTH.

But check the quoted OP's history.  Anecdotal population info from a fanboi based on one evening isn't what I would call objective or statistically significant.  Given what some of them were saying, you'd think that 500K new people had subscribed to the game today, prompted by the PvP rep system.

Seriously, do you think he wasn't seeing, and therefore reporting, what he desperately WANTED to see?

Personally, I'd like to think that the game will get better, and experience some growth (or at least stabilization), but this patch isn't likely to do it for more than a week or two.  Though they call them PvP levels, they aren't levels in the way that most people would understand them.  In fact, all the levels gained currently allow you to do is purchase PvP gear.  Fighting isn't based on those levels, and there are no PvP-based feats or feat trees that are gained as a result of increasing your PvP "level".  The system so far is more like a rep grind for faction that allows you to buy better gear (perhaps a little like the old PvP ranks in WoW).  That is disappointing, and I believe that once the newness wears off, and people start evaluating it more objectively, much of the luster will be lost for anyone that isn't a rabid fanatic.

One thing is certain, though - this does illustrate exactly how starved AoC players were for something to do.  As an MMORPG, the game is shallow and boring.

    • Will these actions change anything
    • FC has done a really poor job so far.  Changing the lead might start getting the company turned in the right direction.

My problem has been that the game just isn't very good as an MMORPG.  Character development, in any form, has been razor-thin, not leaving the players with anything substantive to do to improve their character, other than level.

It's that design philosophy that I find unappealing more than anything else.  I don't think they are going to change that.
