It is obvious you and I are talking about two different things, its unfortunate, but take comfort that the cost to play these graphically intense games will drop as better hardware comes out.

It's even funnier that the game still performance is only mediocre on as you call it "bleeding edge" overclocked 6 grand machines when the average gamer is trying to play on less than half that machine. I bet less than half the gamers here are using Crossfire or SLI let alone 1500 CPU's or600 hundred dollar DDR3- 1800 memory. Some are sure, but it ain't gonna be me.
First, I don't play AoC. Second even after Everquest 2 had come out no machine reasonably play with all the settings turned to the maximum for a long time. AoC attempted that and there is a system configuration that is capable of having all the settings turned on in a very amount of short time. MMOs are designed to be played for years, and offering settings that won't be obtainable is part of that strategy.
If you really wanted to make any sort of argument, you would of looked at his source to see that the ATI card has all the settings maxed and NVIDIA was unable to match as it had a few settings turned down.
Originally posted by JackdogI think the main point is that I could take a high end video card stick in a extreme high end system and still get less than 40 FPS. Piss poor coding any way you cut it. This game is not worth building a 4000 or 5000 dollar box for, even if fixed all the bugs and and added in 5 times the content, and managed to balance the classes.

Those tests were performed with high end computers. The Anandtech used a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 CPU which sells for 1499 at Newegg, the [H]Enthisiast used a QX9650 which sells for $1020 at Newegg. Those are just the CPU's. Add in motherboards, memory, HD's, video cards, PSU's and video cards and you are looking at a build price of 3 to 4K. Off the shelf prebuilts you could double those prices.
The Anandtech test using a single 4870 got the following framerates 1680 x 1050 36 FPS, 1920 x 1200 32 FPS, and 2560 x 1600 25FPS. This was with that card in a machine where the CPU alone cost more than my entire computer. Not exactly anything to brag about in my opinion.
What jackdog said. Him and I usually but heads on most topics, but he is correct.
The point of this post is that by simply switching the video cards on the same system between ati and nvidia's offerings, ati out performs nvidia. This is a big deal as ATI has finally been able to pull inhead of the graphics race.
Also the GTX 280, orignially sold for 600+, becuase of ATI, that cards price has dropped down to 500.
To the one mentioning a $6000 system needed to play AoC, that would only be necessary if you wanted to have every setting turned to its fullest. Otherwise you could buy a cheaper system (now even cheaper as when new graphics cards are released, thier previous iterations drop in price.) and set the settings on medium and still have a very enjoyable game. And that is true with every game.
AoC's may have poor programming, but note that crysis is still barely playable and they were unable to turn all the settings up. Either way, AoC has potential to become more stable and don't loo to this card as the sole thing needed to enjoy the game.
