    • When you need a break from MMOs what game or games do you play?

What Videogames do you play while on a break from MMOs?

Back when I first played MMOs the game was Balder's Gate then I went to Elderscrolls rpgs. Today its pretty much the same Bioware/Bethesda combo Messing with Oblivion and Mass effect.

And I'm sure I'll be playing Fallout 3 and Dragon Age when those come out to cure me of my mmorpg burn out.

Well my "love" for MMO's is slowly dying, big reason is I simply don't feel the "love"in these games anymore, meaning they all are starting to become less and less MMO's and are becoming just the basic real life rush put into a game.

Currently playing The Witcher "Enhanced Edition", bought the game at release, but didn't play much of it, untill they released the enhanced edition and hte game has cought me and is giving me fun. Before Witcher I was and still am into Spore, in a certain way it lacks depth but at the same time it also offers allot of depth, it totaly depends on the playstyle a person has playing it..

Occasionanly I jump into Cod/UT3/Multiplayer, still enjoying Crysis Warhead/Wars, just pre-ordered (yesterday) FarCry2, waiting for Fallout3 aswell looking forwards to GTA4 that is coming soon on pc as I don't play consoles anymore.

And no I aint got the time to play all these games within a short period of time, as most games I buy on release but many of them that I bought recently still have plenty of game left for me to play as I can't afford to spend to much time with my favorite hobby, overall I have about 2 hours a week to devote myself towards a game to have fun, perhaps certain weekends I can tak abit more time then a few hours to enjoy a game.

But MMORPG as they are today don't fit my playstyle, as I am a player that wants to relaxed within this genre and not feel the same rush we already have in real life. But this isn't really a games fault but more in HOW today's community seems to choose to play these games, which in many cases seems to be this rush to cap lvl, just so those people will be able to make topics about a game they played far to much in order for them to get bored. If people would actualy enjoy what is given we would not see so many people for some reason get bored. In my opinion.

Back when I was playing a game like Eq1 I needed a guide, hell I needed an atlas. These days I don't buy them anymore, as they usually don't have any information that you pick up just playing the game.

Know what you mean hehe, noticed this with many players with pre-cu SWG as many where really overwhelmed with the game at the time. So was I but still I preferred exploring everything myself or with friends/guilds, did use a few website for resource spawns, which only gave you the planet where you still had to find the right spot to start harvesting.

Not sure if you meant me with "missing the point" but if it was towards my topic then you kinda are missing the point as I was talking about GUIDE, not guild. That is if the comment was meant for me.

    • Guides do we really need them?
    • To me MMORPG use to be about exploring, carving your own path into the world, getting to learn HOW everything works in that virtual world.

These day's we get a guide "how to lvl one lvl", "how to move", how to walk from one quest to another", how and what do do in specific area's", We have markers that exactly tell you where to go.

      But........

Every MMORPG I ever have played there was no need to actually be guided as everything can/could be simply learned in-game by actually playing the game. If you did not yet know or understand how to lvl/move/explore, the game will provide you with everything to know how to do it, yet we keep seeing guide after guide after guide being published. WHY?

Are MMORPG really that hard to play or understand, or do the masses really don't like to figure things out for themselves?

And yes I know players also happen to create guides aswell, many often guild/clan related.

But overall my question is do we really need that much guides when these games already hold pretty much your hand till endgame?

    • Bioware can't create a themepark only game like WOW/WAR or clone those. Here is why:

Vs $50 for one month of hardcore gameplay and $14.99 per month afterwards? Why? What if there are some great solo play elements to this MMO? You might see the occasional other player but is this really game breaking for you? I'm not being rude, just curious as to why some people don't want a MMO version of KOTOR.

Cause to me a game to live up to HOW tech can be used in it's single player game and done within the MMORPG genre which creates the immersiveness I expect from such game is for me still a few years away, give me a KOTOR online starting it's development in maybe 3/5 years and I might believe it will be worth living up to their single player franchise. Don't worry I can live with it if it turns out to be indeed a KOTOR online game, perhaps maybe even enjoy it if it turns out to be fun. But it can not YET (due to tech) create that same immersivenss I get out of single player games, MMORPG immersiveness is very different and more emotional and I don't see tech just yet capturing that in MMORPG recently, mainly due to the tech limitations. As you must have notice it's still very hard to balance a MMORPG that has 50/50 Graphics/Gameplay as it's lately with most MMORPG more 75/25, tech in a few years I am confident to have catched up and we will see game 50/50.

I play many type of games in all sorts of genre, ever since ....Pong......point is I've seen what tech is capable of, seeing HOW and WHEN it evolves into more. I am sure that whatever the MMORPG will be from Bioware it might turn out being good, but overall regardless what company or MMORPG that is still going to be released with these next few years I am already sure they wil not live up to what I hope this genre will eventually evolve into, like I said and sure I can be wrong games that will grab me again will or can not start development sooner then 3/5 years from now and no I ain't a fortune teller, just a experienced gamers but do know I have a very different view on HOW I look at games then the general gamers I see on forums like this so overall my reason can be very different then other people reasons of not wanting a KOTOR online game.
