What you call new is really a distorted reflection of what is already done. Honestly I don't think there is anywhere else to go but sideways.

This is a defeatist statement at best. I don't presume to judge you as a person. On the contrary I challenge you as I do anyone to be that innovative thinker. But if you don't have any ideas, or even want to attempt to make a contribution past these obituary reports for the 40 something gamers, then its best you be put out of your misery and find another hobby.

If someone invents an original genre then hell yeah thats great. But don't tell me the regurgitated crap comming out in MMO's today is anything new. Its not. Its everything we have seen before and alot of it actually did a worse job.

I agree. I play WAR, but my experience goes back to early MUDs. I was in the 5th-6th grade building my own PCs and remember vividly the imagination you as the player had to put into the game. You also had to put in a little work which made the relaxation element to the game that much more poignent.

But you are taking a point that everyone has deemed fact (not opinion) and put yet another doom and gloom spin on it. Gamers that go way back can't be dis-enfranchised because there was never the (almost) political landscape within gaming as there is today. CEOs barking at each other and developers openly criticizing someone else's product. What you aren't grasping is the innovation that can be born of the chaos and ultimate greed of these companies.

Powerful gaming companies don't want you to pay money these days. They want you to pay attention as it is much more lucritive to keep your attention than to give you linear choppy gameplay. But they stop when they don't feel the need to impress you anymore.

No need to make a sale these days, no need to court  someone for a potential relationship; they have you but they aren't holding on. So when I say the generation needs to die off, I mean let go of your sad complacency and move on. Don't expect; don't care. Force studios to make you care again by producing something new.

The OP is about giving up. If you have, then why are you still here?

    • MMORPGs is a genre that will thrive on the same system that produces channles like TVland and SOAP.

The old timers need their pasture, and the young colts need their open fields.

Older gamers that have that Sid Meir experience aren't going to be WoW'd because they have lived as a gamer since gaming came to be. You look at the lady that died in Shelbyville IN, she was 115 years old. What do you think she had left to see that she wanted to see?

Its good for things to die. It makes room for something new and exciting. I say good riddance to the Shakespearian play go'ers and hello to the Scorsece fans and Francis Ford Coppola fans. Stanley Kubrik lovers along with a host of other writers and producers that owe their inspiration to Shakepseare, but make their own collective works  based on the greater ideal of originality.

See ya later hamlet, hello full metal jacket. I want something that expands it own horizons and takes me along for the ride. Those are the expereiences people will happily pay for.

And as soon as the megaton weight that the vet gamers place on designers is lifted, we might see progression. Until then, everything will be compared to times when gaming was less convenient, and ultimately less fun by comparison.

    • Warhammer shuts down half the servers: News?
    • It's not news.

They had too many servers to start with. Insted of showing players a populated server, they sent a bunch of people forward into several dozen uselss servers with low populations.

By offering a transfer they allowed all the large consolidated members of their player base to move into a more populated area. They'll have more transfers for the stragglers in the future, so closing these servers won't be painful at all.

They'll even have extras as the game makes whatever gains over the next few months. Smart.

      WAR (Warhammer Online)
    • Can i run it? previous problems
    • It looks like you are pretty maxed out for what your system will even recognize for new hardware.

You can run WAR, but you will experience some lag, especially in the large RvR. Try to run the game as priority so that you have the benefit of your connection on your side.

Consider getting a lesser new rig though or looking at what your mobo can handle for more ram. My current rig has 6 gigs and I don't lag for even a second, but I only use about 3 gigs total between my OS and WAR.

      WAR (Warhammer Online)
    • Witch Hunter vs. Witch Elf (The perfect marriage)
    • When you talk about comparison and contrast of skill sets and neccessary stats, you can't draw the rich of a contrast between these two classes.

      Witch Hunter -

Easily one of the more potent melee strikers in the game with an array of specials that can hault a caster mid-spell, or disarm a savage opponent. I took a little bit of time getting comfortable with a stealth class because I am a tank through and through. I like being able to take massive amounts of damage and deal my damage with precision by target instead of in bulk. The strength I found in WH has more to do with survivability than with damage capacity. I've found that the damage will always be there no matter the gear, but the mitigation won't.

A WH that stacks parry/toughness/initiave is going to be a handful for almost any opponent save someone who gets the jump on him/her. It is best for any class to get the jump on their target, but I find myself able to dictate the flow of combat in RVR and scenarios based on my performance behind enemy lines. Killing one caster and dieing is not a noble effort; killing 2-3 and retreating to safe ground to prep for another strike is more in tune with my thoughts on pvp. At level 30 I have a very responsible playstyle that keeps my opponents honest and my healers at ease.

      3 tactics I emply:

Righteous Steel/ Blessed Bullets (heal)/ Emperor's Ward (easily the most important tactic ingame)

I do not deviate from the above save to swap for Riposte for melee only opponents. Killing a tank is not my job, making them pay attention to me is. Why? Because they can't do their job if I'm doing mine.

My targets in order of priority:

      Offense-

Sorcoress/er (very squishy with super damage)

Shaman (easier to disrupt heals and take their back)

Witch elf (if they are not attacking then they are dieing same with WH)

Zealot (a zealot can be a tank in and of itself with their healing. I only have one disrupt and it has to count)

Magus (wicked pull ability with some mitigation, poor dps)

      Marauder (one trick pony)

Black Orc (if they can't punt, they are useless)

      Defense-

Witch Elf (because they are the only class smart enough to go straight for BW and healers)

      Skills used:

Incognito (specials from stealth depend on opponent)

      Burn heretic

      Trial by pain

      Get thee behind me

      Confess (I parry a ton)

      Silence

I also have a skill that adds 100% to parry for 5 secs which is great when I need to back away from a bad spot.

I have played WE, but not to 30, and with all the crap I hear about Sorcs on Order side, I hear just as much from destro about BW. I want to hear from a WE that ignores the tears like I do with my WH.

I don't like PvP combat.
I think it is the best part about MMORPG's.
I don't care either way.
