      ..

Well.. the forumulas worked in the past.. Why change?'

      But all jokes aside..

The OP's reasoning was a giant factor in why I quit.  The game just felt tired.. and now, with the release of an expansion.. I might give the game a try.. but I can imagine myself logging in right now.. and.. getting bored with in the first hour or two.. of the same .. old.. stuff.  then.. heading over to a BG.. and.. getting rolled because I'm not a twink..

Then heading over to do more questing.. and.. get bored..

      Then finally uninstalling.

Same with me. I played at launch for a while, left for a few months before giving it another go and it was old and boring almost immediately. Then about 6 months ago I got a 'come back' free trial in the mail and figure 'sure.. why not'. Within an hour I was bored, no real desire to relearn my characters (surprised they were still around) and still felt old and dull. Thought I would roll a new one and break myself back in, picked a different server and it was still boring and twinks were everywhere!! I prefer PvP servers and I was gimped from the beginning because I wasn't a twink.

I seriously considered giving it another try with the expansion but I just can't see it being any different. Same boring grind, same twinks running around, same guilds and groups telling you how to play and spec you own character and taking the game WAY too seriously, same dull feeling.

I had fun in WoW after launch before everything was about who has what item and twinking. It wasn't my favorite MMO but it was fun before it started changing.

WoW really brought more people into MMOs (I've been playing since Asherons Call 1) which was great to see... until you have the misfortune of experiencing Barrons chat which was pathetic at best and would cause brain cells to commit mass suicide. Then I missed the days when MMOs weren't so popular with the general public.

    • Give Wow a Try ???
    •  Like most have already stated... download the trial and form your own opinion. WoW like most other games has it's good and bad points, things that will appeal greatly to some and not at all to others. Only you can decide if the good out weighs the bad or vice versa. If you are more PvE oriented I would say give it a try, WoW has done a pretty good job in that aspect of the game and they have polished it quite a bit over the years since release. If you decided to try out PvP... do yourself a huge favor and pick another game.

Just curious, it's been years since I've played with the exception of a 'come back trial' about 6 months ago, is the Barrens chat still filled with so much middle school rhetoric you can actually feel brain cells committing suicide when being subjected to it?

    • Death of the Twink??
    •   Twinking is the single biggest reason I left WoW (Lots of reasons but twinks were the primary reason).  Twinks essentially killed PvP completely for the casual/non-hardcore player.

    • What would be wrong getting to L40 by Scenaros ONLY?
    • I didn't try out a scenario until I was about level 9 and then found that I could level way faster running the same mind numbingly boring scenario than I could doing the same mind numbingly boring grind/quests. at least with the quests I get different scenery. Personally I would love to see Mythic tone down the exp you receive in scenarios so it's not the best way to level. I'm in an open PvP server and so far their is very little action in PQs, in towns or world PvP (though that may be due to still being rather low level) while I can get into another scenario within a few minutes of finishing one. To me scenarios are killing the game, I thought we were going to have real realm vs realm with this game, finally some fun PvP, instead everyone is focused on instanced skirmishes.

      - CC has been toned down a lot compared to DAoC.

      - There's keep sieges like in DAoC.

      - Classes complement each other very well, like in DAoC.

      - There's a lot of open world RvR content as well as instanced RvR content (though currently people seem to hide in the "battlegrounds" a lot while leveling rather than fighting over keeps etc, but hopefully Mythic will do something to change this.

      - The instanced RvR (scenarios) is more like WoW battlegrounds than DAoC battlegrounds, although there's about 30 of them I believe.

      - In addition to keep sieges, there's massive fortress sieges and capital city raids.

      - Combat system is global cooldown-based, like World of WarCraft, rather than like DAoC.

      - People die slower.

      - Grind-based leveling has been replaced (or masked, if you prefer) by quests and Public Quests. And of course you can also PvP to level.

      - There's a Renown Rank system similar to the Realm Rank system, but without immensely powerful abilities.

      - There's no Relic raids, but you can raid the enemy Realm's leader NPC if you take their capital city.

      - There's 2 Realms instead of 3, and population balance is much, much better.

      - It's rather buggy, as it's a newly released MMO.

I love the game. It's been a while since I've been  addicted to an MMO, but WAR changed that quickly.

This sums it up really well. I'm in one of the open PvP servers and my only complaint is that too many people use scenarios to level which appears to leave the rest of the world a bit empty. I've played the scenarios and you can level faster than running quests and grinding but it got old fast. I would love to see the exp you receive in the scenarios toned down a bit.
