Gear matters a TON in WAR.
If your lucky enough to be in the first wave of people to get the higher renown gear you will exponentially increase your abilities. That lets you get more levels and higher xp/renown from pvp scenarios. This, in turn, allows you to get even higher renown gear faster.... etc.
Not to mention all the fun you will have absolutely destroying your opposition while doing all of this.
Bright Wizards freaking rock!!!
1. If you want to finish top damage dealer in any RvR scenario and therefore gain the most XP and Renown, play a BW.
2. If you want to level extremely fast while waiting for a RvR scenario, play a BW. Every quest and mob gets dropped in 1-2 hits from the safety of extreme range.
3. Want to get the best loot/prizes for public quests? Play a BW! Participation is mostly based off damage and you might as well be given a sceptre, crown and a harem of mistresses because thou art KING!
4. Want to turn the tide in huge RvR objective battles? Play a BW! Your AOE's can single handedly stop a massive assault or make the nastiest of tanks rethink their character choice.

PvP and MMORPG's don't mix. All PvP does is throw the impossible element of class balance into the mix and the PvE balance suffers.
I agree with the notion that a PvP game should be designed with PvP in mind first! If it's truely designed as pvp game, players will overlook any micro PvE imbalances that might appear. After all, the playerbase will be mostly interested in the pvp hence the title of a PVP game.
Class balancing might only be an impossible element of PvE MMORPG's trying to throw in PvP as an afterthought.
PvP'ers will have to wait until Turbine gets off their IP addiction and makes AC3 (a revamped version of AC1 with new graphics.) or until some other gaming company realizes how great of a gem AC pvp actually was.
Open world PVP
Death Penalty
Corpse looting
More player skill based than level/gear based ( a level 90 can kill a 180+ if played right)
***The ability to dodge ranged attacks**** None of this auto hit/resist crap.
Massive guild politics (PK'ers vs Anti)
All around just a kick ass game.
I'll never make the mistake of playing a "good" faction again. I learned from my WoW experience. I enjoy PvPing at endgame and on my server the Horde seriously dominates. It's so bad that the Alliance actually forms "loosing premade battleground teams" to expedite farming marks for their arena gear.
I don't know if it's universal but on my server the Alliance looks at RvR as a means to get arena gear so they can PvE better, while the Horde seem to want to kick arse, take names, PvP and win. I'm sure there's some psychology behind it as well.
