I'd imagine it was a huge challenge trying to immerse a gaming population used to this traditional view of classes in to Middle earth where things like magic, traditional healing concepts, etc didn't exist in lore.   They've made classes that facilitate excellant playability through all levels of play and allow versaitility in group formation.

Take champion you get a really good avoidance build slap a shield on go in to the right stance -- champs can tank the Balrog.  I've seen it done.   They don't have the instant agro skills that Guards have so it requires a tighter raid but their dps allows them to hold a very solid agro and get the job done.    Most 5 or 6 man groups I"ve seen down the rog used a champ over a guardian so they had clobbers on the everseer.

I've seen groups kill Mordrith in CD with Loremaster as main healer instead of minstrel or even captain.  Hell I've seen a solid burglar become main healer by creatively useing conjunctions.  And with end game gear my minstrel has tanked two shamans on Thrang in the rift for a time while folks were needed elsewhere on short handed fights (this was never the original plan but hey I was able to keep it going for quite some time and we won the encounter).   I just can't agree with the whole *strict adherence to roles* thing.  Heck there are a lot of mins with a very different build than me who really CAN tank almost as well as a champ in some circumstances!   Sooo many different things you can do with traits and gear and options that no class is totally limitted in how it can be played.

So I'd counter what's said about the class system -- I find LOTRO's class system the most versatile and interchangeable of any game -- and yes I've played a lot of them.

As for the future it seems that Runekeeper is going to be a neat compromise with the desire to have magic -- they've wisely limitted it to dwarves and elves again *Trying* to stick fairly close to lore -- although you aren't going to really be able to be too dogmatic about lore in the game I don't think.  They are doing a damn good job there.   Also the warden is an exciting concept of an avoidance tank who doesn't wear heavy armour.  I'm curious to see the end result and how the implementation effects group combos -- but it will just expand on the versatility they've already created.

I mean no disrespect but if folks are of the opinion that the class system is flawed -- they really haven't played too far in to the game -- I'd wager making it to max level 35 maybe even 40 playing with very narrow minded pick up groups with builds based on traits and gear only aquired through questing.    After having been level 50 for over a year on my min I'm still constantly analising my build to see how I can improve many different areas of my survivability and effectiveness.  It takes a good amount of time to really understand and get solid with your class in this game -- as it should!

Very well put, couldn`t  agree more. I`ve played LOTRO since day one, and when - and only when - you learn every nook and cranny your character class has to offer, you realise just how special your chosen class is.

And having played 4 different classes myself, - including Burglar and a Hunter -- both worlds apart, i know how much classes in this game are rather special.

While you can find the scenario and enter it through a portal, few people join scenarios that way.  All you have to do is click on the Join Scenario button above your minimap and you will join the queue for whatever pairing you are in.   If you want to play in a different scenario, go to a different pairing and then click the button...

Here ya go, this is the simplest and easiest way to join scenarios. On your mini-map there is a button w/ the WAR symbol on it, give that a click and the scenario que window for the zone you are in will pop-up. There are physical portals for each scenario out in the world, and they aren't too hard to find, but there's really little reason to use them unless you just happen to be next to one.

If you want to play in a different scenario, then you simply have to travel to another zone and press the button to join that areas scenario.

OK, thanks a lot guys, i knew about the button on the minimap, its just that i only ever got the nordenwatch scenario, guess i`ll have to travel about a bit :)  thanks a lot guys, much appreciated.
