| Quote | If you stare into the Abyss long enough the Abyss stares back at you. - Friedrich Nietzsche |
Good read. Heres some excerpts:
"The cracks in the game’s polished veneer had begun to show through even as I was wrapping up Part One of this review, when I was still under level 40. Don’t even get me started on how many horrible, horrible quests there are in the North Downs."
"LOTRO turns into a Tolkien-themed Asian grinder after level 40."
"No, you didn’t read that wrong. In the later levels you are going to have to kill 720 of the same mob to attain a modicum of improvement for your character."
"We got him down to 30%… to 20%… then, under 5%, on the very cusp of victory, when we were already discussing loot distribution, and pronouncing a curse on the designers should we get any more Loremaster gloves… he entered into Anti-Exploit Mode and healed to full. He then proceeded to stand there doing nothing for half an hour as we attempted in vain to reset him, whereupon he, too, promptly vanished without a trace.
Most of my guild cancelled their subscriptions the next day."
And so it goes. Its kind of funny when you see something like this from a reviewer who... you know... actually played the game, instead of a reviewer who was given a demo of the game by one of Turbine's suits.
Guess you won't be coming back then.
Yay for technopeen. (Btw, i just made up that term, its now copyright)
While I can certainly understand one's affinity to the "latest greatest" in technology, sometimes there is just no need for it. You would probably have run VG better on a lot cheaper system if you stuck with running xp.
I know that you'll come up with a bazillion valid reasons why you need Vista 64 and a quad core processor though, since you are a computer science major, and not just an overzealous consumer.
If you are having trouble with $15 a month for subscription fee, then I'd say you need to put games on the backburner and get your finiancial situation on track.
But of course you wont listen to that, so yeah, the game can be found for $4 or so on Ebay usually, 30 days of play time is included, and make sure to budget for cigarettes and beer...
As far as classes go, I have no idea what you will like. I played a Shadowpriest and a Hunter in WoW, and I really enjoy the Sorcerer class in VG. Just play a class up to lvl 6 or something, and see if you like it.
Why on earth would Blizzard want to hire back any of these guys? They left because they didn't want to develop WoW (IIRC), and went on to produce a horrible game with a horrible subscription system. Blizzard is well into development of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, and both of those games seem pretty darn good thus far.
It makes no sense why Blizzard would want to hire back any of the people that snubbed their noses at them as they left. No, no need to for any charity. It is poetic justice in the most sublime manner, that WoW is making $1+billion a year, and FSS is closing up shop.
Hey Agt, good to see you around again ;).
You may have mentioned it, but what server are you playing on? I have a 26 sorc on Seradon named Ruprekt.
I know where you are coming from when you talk about the community. There seems to be that group of folks who were "here from the beginning" with the elitist attitudes. They always seem to be in general chat saying "go back to WoW" and seem to want to keep any new people coming in and ruining "their" game.
Personally, I love games where you see a lot of noobie questions being asked in general chat, as it always seems to stimulate some kind of conversation, and thats half the reason to play an MMO ;). VG isn't immediately intuitive, and I cannot understand why those "founder" types get their panties in a bunch because someone didnt know about the /setfog command.
