First off. I played all the games you mentioned.
AoC was boring for me after level 20.
WAR I love. Mainly because I've played Warhammer since I was 10
LoTRO. Well I find the combat too......clunky. But I aprreciate it's a good game, and I could love it if the combat was more my style.
WoW.....I still have my account and dabble in it occasionally. So I play WoW, WAR and CoH. Every time I go back to WoW I get bored with the commitment it seems to need me to put into it, whilst giving me no enjoyment in return. It's slow, and the combat is actually made slow (as are recovery times) to make it more time-consuming. At least it feels that way to me. I feel WAR is just faster and more accessible. One thing I will say in favor of WoW. It is a whole world. It has little jokes, side games etc. which make it a whole world, whereas WAR is just the frontlines of a war. That is WAR's flaw and WoW's perhaps greatese strength. Immersion.
Oh and character customisation is TERRIBLE.
Maybe it's just the people who played Horde in WoW. Not to draw a comparison here, but the situation between Order and Dessie sounds much the same.
Now onto my real point. I'm a Britsh Boy. EN European server. We don't have any issues on my server whatsoever. We draw as much as we win. Each day the Control bar will be pushed back and forwards. Mainly, I feel, due to the fact that no-one on our servers communicate. I think I've talked to two people in the entire game. It's like an unspoken agreement to shut up and play. But also because people on our server seem to know what to do. Everyone under Level 14 mans a seige weapon. Most people defend. Dessie has no defence at all and just rush us in huge numbers. So basically if RVR is important to you on your server and you have no desire to change, yet Dessie is raping you all the time, then understand it's probably not gonna change. But if it were me, I wouldn't shut up on the BattleGroup chat in the hope that some people listen.
Anyone in the EU, hear me. I pre-ordered off of EA, yet haven't recieved a beta code. Where can I find my beta code?
Thanks, I just don't want it to end up another 40 pounds out of my pocket.
Interesting tidbit. The UK game megastore (imaginitively called GAME) has stopped selling AoC in store, and hasn't even mentioned WAR in the upcoming releases in the PC section of the store, I asked the guy why there was a big kerfuffle 2 months ago, but with the release less than a month away there was no mention. He said that they would put the Collector's Edition on the shelves a month after release, just in case it wasn't worth the effort.
I want to know one thing. I like most MMORPGs I play, except ones which are click to move. I have to play ones which are WASD. But anyway, moving swiftly on. I liked AoC. I played to level 20 and enjoyed myself. But it did have problems, and after the initial story, it got quickly boring. PVP wasn't good just backstabbing low levels for no reason. The quests were lackluster. Plus the developers just screwed up the fans. I love Funcom tfor the Longest Journey, but I kinda feel that Longest Journey and Dreamfall were like meeting some hot chick in Ibiza, and AoC was finding out she'd stolen your wallet. Plus the players were leaving in droves, and I didn't like that. I just wanted a game with a fairly large player base which wasn't being complained about more than being played.
Now that my little rant is over, I want to bring this to the point. Will WAR end up like AoC, insanely overhyped, only to be a waste of money, or will it keep steadily going and get better and better? I don't care much about the whole 'Combat is shit' or 'Classes are bad' or whatever. I love Warhammer, and this is kind of a dream come true game for me. I won't play it if it is utter shite full of bugs, but I hope it's good. I remember sitting in Starbucks with my fellow hobby fans 2 years ago, thinking it would be the new WoW, but intelligently Mythic went in another direction, one which suited the Lore, and one which will make it suitably different to WoW. I don't play the hobby anymore, but I play all the video games.
So I basically ask one thing. I know none of you can see the future, but do you think this will be another AoC launch, or will it be a long term success?
