10six mmofpsrts started in 1999, real time fps combat, controling rts units in fps, building bases on land you own, 1,000,000 people on one server.
planetside 2001, real time fps combat, vehicles, hundreds of players fighting at the same spot.
wwiionline 2001, real time fps action with very detailed damage modeling.
NONE of them were big budget games.......None of them had "accurate representation of position" problems.
Planet side is not a true FPS. it uses a cone of fire system to help with lag and latency and spreads out shots. It doesn't use per pixel aiming.
Not sure about the other two.. but i am pretty sure nothing had 1 million people on one server. What kind of drugs are you smoking?

Simple question. Do you like the Realm vs Realm MMORPG design? This means pre-assigned factions, two or more, and you pick which one to join. You fight the other side or sides in a neutral area, but each side has it's own area where it cannot be attacked, typically where you do PvE, although you an also PvE in the neutral areas.
Realm vs Realm is different from games with no pre-assigned sides. There is also FFA, which stands for Free For All. Some players advocate for this style of PvP, where you can attack any player, anywhere in the game. Even EVE has safe zones where you cannot be attacked. Darkfall, which may or may not ever release, is supposed to have FFA combat as a feature, and some people think this feature makes a game more like a "sandbox".
Examples of Realm vs Realm are DAoC, the upcoming WAR, I think SWG pre-NGE would qualify, and perhaps City of Heroes/ City of Villians.
Games like Shadowbane and EVE are not Realm Vs Realm. There are no pre-assigned sides, and players can make up their own factions. In Shadowbane, players could make their own cities, and alliances in the game, and did not have to join any faction already created by the game. In EVE players can form "corporations", and again, do not have to join any pre-existing sides in the game.
Of course there are also games that are strictly PvE, and have no player vs player combat, either FFA or RvR.
Please post your examples of Realm Vs Realm, or correct my examples if you like.
This discussion is not solely about WAR, but it is relevant to Warhammer. I think this is at the heart of whether or not players will like WAR. I've seen lots of complaints from people that aren't interested in WAR, like it's to much like WoW, or the animations are good enough, or the combat isn't engaging enough, etc., etc., but if you don't like RvR to begin with, none of the other stuff really matters. You're just not going to like WAR, if you're not into the RvR game design.
Ni I like free open world games where I can play with myself anywhere i please
Relax. Tasos will soon deliver the goods to you.

I say western or european because I'm specifically talking about the traditional fantasy RPG, european style, half the mmos I see out there are asian or anime themed and it makes me sick.
I'm curious how many people would like to see more european style fantasy MMORPGs that were fully 2d, but when I say 2d I don't mean super-mario-brothers, I mean like UO. Every tile in the original release of UO was actually drawn one at a time and was done very well, so well that no 2d game has yet to top it and this game is 10+ years old, how many people would be willing to play a fully mmorpg 2d game with graphics better than UO? The laptop I'm typing on can't play any 3d games except ancient ones or horrible ones, so I'm forced to play 2d games and it appears I've already played every single 2d game ever made, so I'm not asking if anyone knows anything because I know, nobody knows, unless they are working on a secret project, I don't like free UO shards they are all the same, they are full of rejects from the real servers with a god complex, even if they were to design the greatest server ever it would still be the same old stuff.
The first time I played UO was in phase 1 beta, it took place whenever the 1997 E3 convention took place whenever that was, mid year, anyway it was amazinly full of bugs but was an amazing game to play, I just love 2d when it's done well and I can only hope more game companies will be looking 4th dimensionally and build more high quality 2d games with the option of playing them on pdas or cellphones of the future, these high end 3d games will likely never see a cellphone or pda unless it were in 100 years.
whats the point fo making 2d games
