Even though AoC may be getting better they have already scared off their player base. Really, it's to late now :/
They would have to do something amazing to get people back (or maybe offer old subscribers some free play time to tempt them?).
Large seiges in AoC will never work smoothly for one main reason. They put far to many polys into character models, modern PCs just simply cannot process data that fast.
lol, they wouldn't even be able to shift those on Milton keynes market. I guess they were unlucky in finding AOC copies :P
They could probably sell the DVD boxs, though....
Most wouldn't say AoC and Runescape were comparable. But I suppose they are competitors in the end.
If you want to compare success then Runescape wins hands down, they have something like 4-5 million players if you include non-subscribers the last I heard. Which is second only to WoW.
Runescape is more basic to look at (not as much as it once was, they did upgrade to a modern OpenGL engine not long ago). But there is far more content in Runescape even though the world is quite small. Your get more content as you level up, in AoC you get less and eventually non (probably the main reason it died after a month) :P
Really the only big let down with runescape is the community is THE worst I have ever seen in my entire life, and I'm not just talking about online, I mean the worst anywhere. I've never seen such a collection of annoying and completely clueless kids.
The thing is there is no reason to play WAR over WOW. WOW pretty much has everything WAR has, and the small amount of things it doesn't are being added in the expansion next week. WAR also has dreadful, grindy and dull PVE.
Also animations are buggy (e.g. you still swing your weapon while knocked down, even though it has no effect, people appearing mounted when they arn't etc.) which means it's hard to see whats going on when theres lots of fighting on screen, you don't get this problem in wow.
I really don't think warhammer works as an MMO, they should have made it purely a pvp combat game with no PVE grinding, just one huge battlefield with places to raid/capture which gain you ranks etc (similar to planetside)
What is your favourite Priest archetype class in Age of Conan?
