In my opinion, it was the little stuff, like forced grouping, long cr's, having to actually use a little skill called sense heading, no ingame maps, no little compass to tell you where to go. The fact that the game was actually challenging. It made it feel like less of a game and more of completely different world. You didnt feel like some unstoppable badass hero, you felt like a little person in a big world. and i think the fact that the game was designed around first person really helped with the immersion, for me at least.
Ever since eq1 i have had the hardest time dedicating myself to another mmo, i feel like i owe it to myself to KEEP playing eq1, after all i did spend 7 years playing it, 10+ hours a day EASILY. But alas, the population has dwindled and the game is more about raiding nowadays, which i have no interest in anymore. Hell i remember during the first year they brought the fabled creatures in for the anniversery, i spent 36 hours straight on one character... passed out on my keyboard while it was my turn... woke up at the back of the list, stayed up another 36 hours, got my item... logged into my other character and did it all over again... i had my tv next to my monitor, with my xbox and my playstation lol... good times, i miss u eq ![]()

AMAZING job by troodon, enjoy!
the only thing thats going to "kill" wow is time, eventually people will leave for new experiences, whether they be in rl or an mmo... but even when it will be considered "dead" by many, it will still have its hardcore player base. Look at eq, the only thing keeping it alive is its hardcore players.
anyone who checks pretty much any mmo forum has seen the posts... more and more people are tired of games not living up to the standards that made older mmos like eq1 and uo shine. so the question is not why does "x" game suck so much... but what should have been done to imrpove upon "x" game
here are some things i think make an mmo good
1.) there has to be something that forces people to work together, any game that you can solo all the way through probably wont appeal to most people. people like a challenge, i thought everquest did this good while still giving some classes the ability to solo if wanted. it seems like everywhere i go people are always complaining how "x" game feels so barren... thats because people arent going to group unless they have to, why share the bling if you dont have to?
2.) Storyline... this should not be limited to quests. everywhere you go should have some kind of background information. quests should tell a story, not "kill x amount of y creatures" people are not dumb we see this for what it really is... grinding.
3.) make people work for what they get. i like the idea of random drops throughout zones. but i would much rather camp something for 4-5 hours to get that uber item. if people have to work for something they will appreciate it alot more.
4.) Gameplay... gameplay is more important that graphics (look at wow :P), developers spend so much time in graphics they seem to forget that they mean nothing if no one plays the game, people dont care how pretty your character models are if there is no meat to the game...
these are just some of my opinions, please post yours!
first of all let me say that i am NOT here to flame the game... i love it so far. I do, however, have a few concerns
1.) parts of my characters are constantly buggy, (missing parts of arms, see thru torso stuff like that)
2.) im getting some BAD lag spikes (will run fine for 15-20min then i will lag and wont be able to move for a good 3minutes, i was thinking maybe this was because their servers arent used to the heavy traffic?)
i dunno if these r due to my comp or not? or if the game still needs a couple patches to be running better....i can deal with the occasional lag spikes, but i cant stand the character issues...
im running a 2.4ghz processor , 1gb ram...geforce 7600...3mb/s cable internet...not the greatest by far but it handles most games great
just looking for someone to maybe tell me if i just need to adjust some settings to fix these?
Would you rather see a game release pushed back a year or have the game release with a few bugs that will be fixed?
