I'm one of the wretched minority that hates guides with a passion.
I love exploring but there's barely any point these days. If there is some hidden pool where you can fish for golden fish or some lower level mobs that drop diamonds you can guarantee there'll be a crowd of other players that have read in the guide books they should hunt there.
Over the last few years I just feel that MMOs have ONLY become about the rush to max level. Unfortunately as they are group games it is difficult to buck the trend. If you join a group without the absolute most appropriate gear then someone will tell you, and you might even find it hard to get a party.
For me the only solution is to play games with a lower number of players, in this case there is not actually a guide for every single thing you are likely to do in the game.
Guides help players reading the guides get richer and max level quicker.
Guides kill exploration FOR EVERYONE because you know there is nothing worth exploring for.
I'd say you'll be fine in any game where you do plenty of farming. Because farming is pretty routine and it is easy to stop at any time. I spent ages playing FFXI when my daughter was a baby and it's certainly been no child care disater. Your baby can sit with you and you can talk, at the same time you don't lose your mind from baby boredom. Ryzom is another good game for farming.
It gets much more difficult when they're walking. You pretty much have to leave your playing time to their sleeping time. Make the most of the first 6 to 9 months.
BTW people who think you are going to spend every minute when a baby is awake talking to them etc. haven't had kids. You need some stimuli for yourself or you'll just go crazy.
I've not player WAR, but I'm 90% sure there'll be an option to change the on-screen text colours. You're used to WoW, but other players are used to other schemes.
Have a look in the UI preferences, I'd be very surprised if you can't change them there.
I'm surprised to see Ryzom mentioned.
I've been playing for a month now, and although I think the community is very good, I am yet to meet anyone at all that is Roleplaying. I guess they must be hiding in the higher levels.
I enjoyed some good roleplaying on the AoC European RP server, until the game became to painful and I left.
There was lots of RP in EQ2, but again the game didn't capture my interest.
I think it's wrong that any PvP game shows you the level of your opponent.
I also prefer games when the level difference is small, so if someone ganks a couple of lowbies they can join together and oust the ganker.
