Completely new player, just downladed and tried the 14-day trial. And having had the impression of this game as mostly a PvE game I was surprised to see a FFA PvP server, so now I'm wondering will it be like Age of Conan, with lvl 80's (or whatever max level Vanguard is) camping around respawn spots to gank and grief lvl 1's, scaring away any potential new player or is it more structured or organized, like the "fugitive system" that may or may not see the light of day in that other game? Just curious :)
Ok, after doing some more thinking I realized this game is not Age of Conan, so let's not do so much compare and contrasting. so what I'm wondering is if in this game it's FFA in the whole game-world (so to speak), like I go out and I risk getting ganked or griefed by higher lvl's if I'm not careful or find allies?
I think with this game that's ok, it's a big open game world isn't it (unlike you know what game), with not that many people playing (as compared to another you know what game), so there should be a nice feeling of danger, like "Hey, I could get jumped going out there but I might get lucky and manage to do my quest so maybe I'll chance it, maybe I'll find someone to team up with to defend me" etc

I tell you what would be ridiculously freaking awesome. I'd be social if they incorporated the mic and webcam so you could actually view it "onscreen" on the ship for ship to ship communication. Guaranteed if nothing else being hailed and actually having to talk back to someone would get you into the game and into the spirit of things. I'd shat myself if this was put in
I can agree with the voice part but I don't really want to see some fat 40ish guy in a dirty t-shirt when I hail someone's ship. Just the thought of it gives me the shivers bad.
No I think voice would be more than enough.
Bren
I usually cry foul when immersion comes up and agree with Bren here. It'd be a total mood killer if I'm chatting with an "Andorian" and the person on the viewscren didn't have blue skin and antennae.
Hopefully it will be our on-screen avatars that's "on screen" when we're hailing each other, of course that means there won't be any lip movements unless they employ some very fancy real-time lip-synching technology that probably doesn't exist yet :)
This is what killed the game for me too, the non-seamless world and the static loading screens whenever you want to go to another part of the continent, completely killing the immersion.
As I have never played WoW or any of the other popular MMORPG'S my only comparison is Lord of the Rings Online, a game that has a completely seamless outside world where you can run/walk or ride on your horse from one end of the current game world to the other, such as Angmar or Forochel in the north via a fantastic detailed area like The Shire, into a major population center like Bree-Town (where there will be some lag, admittedly, but no loading screens upon entering or leaving the town) etc all the way to Misty Mountains as an example.
And all this without ever encountering a single loading screen (apart from entering buildings and the infamous "Ered Luin" gate, let's hope they add The Tower Hills someday) or having your friends or other players placed in a different "dimension". And once "Mines of Moria" is released later this year there will be a single loading screen and then the whole massive dungeon area will be seamless, can't wait to take my toons there!
Basically, to cut a long rant short, this is what I would have wanted for AoC and the world of Hyboria as well, and LotrO proves it can be done. And don't give me the "oh, Age of Conan has so much more advanced graphics, it has to have loading screens", if you've ever played LotrO with DX10 and Very High or more you'd know that's simply not a very good excuse!
Are you still playing (or subscribed to) your first MMO?
