Well, that was an expected disappointment. Wouldn't have thought Bioware were sell outs as well.

I know you probably know about those already, but I figured just incase. Not like a lot gets accomplished on the game forums here anyways.

Originally posted by AzrileIt would be stupid for games to try and reinvent the wheel with everything they do. The big example is the pvp system in AOC where they tried to do things different, and in the end only wasted 4 months with no pvp system at all, only to release a pvp system that is nearly identical to what UO had for years.
If no one ever tries to "reinvent the wheel", the MMO market will soon stagnate. The games you buy will be simple rehashes of the crap that came before with only a slight touch of creativity. God forbid MMO developers try to innovate. AoC may have failed, but at least they had the brass tacks to attempt something different and unique, even if it was flawed in execution.
The term 'innovate' is completely different than the expression 'reinvent the wheel'. When AOC tried to invent their pvp system, they went through nearly the exact same 'steps' that UO did and they ended up with nearly exactly what UO had. They took four months to learn the mistakes that UO had already learned and fixed. That is what reinventing the wheel is.
Hence why I used both words in a contrasting way. Also why I pointed out the execution as being flawed as opposed to the concepts. And to correct myself, I meant to type "If everyone tryies to" as opposed to if "No one tries to" my own fault at that. I'd edit it, but it doesn't concern that much.
Edit: Upon further review of the play, I realize I didn't communicate in my first post very clearly what I was trying to say. I more or less was trying to say that because no one has tried to reinvent the wheel, games are turning out to be very similar from one another. People are now sticking to a very close model and not even trying to stray from it. MMOs are starting to become very simplified to appeal to a mass crowd as opposed to appealing to a niche market, like most games do.
Just in general (not necessarily media franchises) I'd say KOTOR, but that is being done already (or so I think). Someone mentioned Blade Runner which I think had a cool world that could be expanded upon. The original movie leaves a lot to be discovered. I'm sure it has been said but Halo could make a cool MMO if it weren't for the type of people it would attract. The Fall Out series also has a cool setting for a MMO or maybe something like Half-Life 2. A second go at SWG would be appreciated.
Yeah, developers/publishers seem to be sticking with WoW as a business model. I'm just gonna wait for a pre-nge SWG game to come along, if it ever does.
