The beta (in my opinion) is going very well.
I got my invite about a week ago. Up until then I hadn't been following too closely (lost interest after waiting 9 months). Since starting up beta, I've ordered my CEs and will be playing for a long time to come.
Wish I could say more, but NDA will be gone soon and the truth will be out!
The option to use the Riftways (mostly located in major cities and outposts/hubs) is available, but not mandatory. I've been playing for months now and have yet to use a riftway (my personal preference).
The only problem I've found with this so far is that if you are flying or can see the horizon (standing around the cliffs of Bordinar's Cleft, there is a solid gray "wall" of fog in the distance. I love the massive view distance, but hate the wall of fog.
Can anyone post screens from higher up or of the horizon. Curious if it's only me seeing the dense fog wall.
Thanks!
Welcome back to Telon.
I truly hope you find what you are looking for, whether it be here or elsewhere. After all, having fun/loving what you're playing is what it's all about.
Originally posted by JK-KanosiI definitely see your point here. I feel somewhat the same way. I would give anything to see Vanguard become the flagship game, but I don't know if it will ever happen.

Actually, the development team behind Vanguard has been working feverishly on the trial for many months. We are anxiously awaiting it's release right now. They realize that they have a HUGE hurdle to overcome (most of it being things they are not responsible for), so they are polishing, perfecting, and pushing to ensure things come out just right.
Buddy keys are included in both the Normal Edition (1 or 2 I believe) and with the CE (10). They're constantly being handed out on the VG forums here, and in fact, there is a HUGE handout going on over at the official forums. One player bought 15 copies of the CE and is handing out over 150 buddy keys. Stop by and explore it if you like.
I was a naysayer during beta and at launch. The team behind the game has changed my mind. They're dedicated, hard-working, and they actually care what the players think (a recent change in one update altered itemization in the game...there was an outcry, they are currently polling the community on ways to fix/revert the change). It's come along way. It's not perfect, but it floats my boat currently.
I see a problem with the developers taking several months to complete a trial island. It tells me they don't have a full staff available to complete content updates and bug fixes in a timely manner. I played this game the first summer of its release, then 6 months later when they reactivated accounts during the Dec-Jan. timeframe. They were supposed to have the trial island introduced 6 months after release if I recall correctly. I also recall them taking several months before finally introducing a raid dungeon and even longer to implement permanent flying mounts, which was promised at release.
I'm not bashing the game, because I've actually always liked the game, I just never had any confidence in the dev team or SOE in fixing the problems the game had, because I haven't seen any indication that SOE is throwing some good resources to fixing the game. My theory is that Vanguard is a pet project for them and EQ2 is their flagship, so they put the most resources towards EQ2, and Vanguard gets the scraps.
However, with the resources allotted to the dev team, they haven't done a bad job. They've just taken a really long time to do what other companies do in a month.
For me, it's about playing (in my opinion) the best game on the market right now. The community is healthy and growing, the dev team that is there is doing an awesome job, and I love the game. Perhaps with the trial island, they'll see the explosion of newcomers needed for someone up high to realize that this can be so much more than a pet project.
Sony has always said they'd rather have 10 mediocre/mid-level games than one huge popular one, so maybe that affects some of the decision making.
You present some valid points. I only wish SOE would give more money/people to the team. If the work that has been done in the last year had been accomplished in the 6 months (or less) after release, Vanguard's story would be quite different.
I'll support it and play it as long as it has life (or something closer to what I'm wanting in a game comes along). I don't see it going down anytime soon, but that's just my outlook/opinion. ![]()
