The devs have said that Stargate Worlds will be the standard buy-then-pay-monthly-fee model
You are probably thinking of an interview with Joe Ybarra that said he thinks that the future of MMO gaming will be microtransactions. But, SGW will definitely not have that model.
Originally posted by blkjagI'm looking forward to this aspect of the game. It's about time that an MMO tries this. Yes, your level will be important, but it's much more realistic (and fun/challenging) to have it this way. I will enjoy taking someone down not because I am a much higher level, but because they do not know how to play the game.

My main concern with SG:Worlds is that the devs seem to be fixed on the Holy Trinity of Tank/Heals/DPS. Designing around that framework explicitly is cause for concern, and shows that they're unlikely to try and break many molds.
It'd be nice to have an MMO coming out that was based on strength of its own gameplay, not on its adherence to current MMO conventions.
This is not true.. its been stated many times by the CME developer they are doing away the "holy trinity" model. No dedicated tanks, healers, etc.
Its about tactic and ranged combat., if you stand out in the open and if you are a level 50 player, a couple of level 5 players can bring you down.
It's a thinking person's game.
JE and Stargate Worlds are the only two space MMO's in development that look to be any good. And both look REALLY good. I'll play whichever one comes out first and then look to see how the second one looks before I buy it. Glad to see the genre is getting some respect.

It is very simple. Blizzard spent what? $50-60M on making WOW (before TBC)?
I highly doubt they have more resources making Stargate Worlds. My guess is that the total land area probably would not be very different (within a factor of 2?) than WOW when it was first released.
They can divide that into 20 equally sized worlds. Or they can have some bigger ones and some really tiny ones (areas all block off because of whatever reasons).
It really does not matter. A game size of WOW is big enough to launch as a MMO. Expecting anything a lot bigger is just delusional.
Just my .02
... Another question.
I read that 65,000 people signed up for the closed beta. Is that a lot?
In your opinion, what kind of gamer are you?
