I don't understand the.."if i want to play solo i'll play a console game" argument. I like mmos...i don't like to group all the time...In reality I have a few good friends...don't mind crowds once and a while but mostly go it alone. The same for mmos..but even in solo play i like the semblance of a living world..and it provides a different feeling and atmosphere of realism to a game ...when you see another toon that isn't simply acting out some programmers algorithm. Maybe when a.i. becomes so brilliant that one can not tell a mob from a toon...then i might buy the "console game" retort....until then.
Very well said, couldn't agree more!

Some pretty ignorant posts on this thread. Just for your edification, a small company named Turbine brought out a game called Asheron's Call which featured a massive world with more dungeons than any game out there today yet and it had almost no lag even playing it on dial up and it entailed very little zoning.
So don't try to tell me Funcom coded AoC with small areas and heavy instancing the way it did to avoid lag, If you think LOTR is boring don't even bother with AoC, it is going to lead the market as the most boring game todate, bar none.
Why do you think so many people complain about Wow, there is so little challenge in the game. Funcom took it another step farther and removed ALL challenge from the game.
Funcom has proven again they are a minor developer in the field and really do not understand the genre.
Well lets see millions are still playing the game. Also anyone who pays attention knows that gamers today turn on a game very quickly once they have played it for a long time and are bored of it, its called being fickle! Funny thing is I don't even play the game, I am just tired of all the backstabbing from long time players who have used the game up, not saying you are one of them.
Already got one from another source, thanks
I think what pisses me off the most is you have people using the term "dumbed down" to mean two totally different things. The first meaning that the interface and control scheme is watered down to meet the shortcomings of the console platform, this "dumbed down" makes sense and is a legitimate concern.
The one that annoys me to no end is the people who say a game needs to be "dumbed down" on a console as in less difficult or ez-mode as some put it. This implies that console players are a bunch of unintelligent simpletons. I have played consoles and pc since the days of the Atari 2600 and the Commodore 64 and don't need my games "dumbed down" difficulty wise just becuase it is on a console and neither do the tons of friends I have or the console gaming populace in general. This attitude by pc eltiists is what gets my dander up!
Rant Over lol!
Also just so I do have something in my post relating to AoC I will say I think the game is good but i don't know why I but I just don't find myself having that I have to play feeling I have had wth most other MMORPGs

I already said it, but I will say it again...
You realized you almost never get a reply? All things you say about AoC are just your experience.
See, you love World of Warcraft, right?
I never liked WoW classes, lore and art, for me it was always easier to get into games like Everquest 2, Vanguard and Guild Wars, the RPG and universe part of WoW it too Walt Disney for me... do I hate WoW? NO
See, because I really like Cronenberg´s movies, should I hate Star Wars ? No, and I dont...
My point is, you probably dont like the games I mentioned as you dont like AoC... but well, I just cant have fun playing a paladin or a hunter ( too cliche for me ) in a very very colorful world like WoW universe... soo
AoC, Everquest 2 and all games you hate are the kind of games people like me want to see... music , art, lore and gameplay from AoC for me is much more immersive than the pseudo seamless world from WoW.
You should have fun with the things you like and just forget the things that doesnt harm you, even if you dont like these things..like AoC...
...
The Chat system in AoC is good and functional as the chat system in EQ2, WoW, Vanguard, Guild Wars etc
....
Exactly what I keep saying to people who claim the social structure of the game is ruined by the bad chat system. Its identical to the chat system in all the MMO's you mentioned lol.
How many hours per day do you play MMORPGs?
