My guess is that it was a marketing ploy by Funcom, or just plain shoddy distribution.
actually , since the had none for sale over a week ago I would guess more are being manufactured for sale. Or people cancelled their orders with amazon.com when they annouced they were not shipping them out in a timely manner. you wil also see they have all of 1 that they are selling and 1 from a third party at the suggested retail price. The rest they are just the middle man for the sale and the price starts at 134.00 and goes higher

How are they gonna claim the "fastest selling" pc game? The Burning Crusade sold like more than 1.2mill in 24hours. Also "20 reviews" I only know a review for this game and was made by some norwegian site.
"One of the fastest" not "The fastest" you did not read it correctly.
add to that the fact burning crusade was an expansion of a game not the orginal game.

No, you aren't , For some reason you keep translating 700,000 SHIPPED into 700,000 SOLD. That is not the case. There hasn't been any place stating they have SOLD 700,000 copies of AoC, they have stated 400,000 people have entered Hyboria. At best you could take that as 400,000 sold at worst 110,000 CE editions sold and 390000 buddy keys since the CE gets 5 (yes there is a rumor about buddy keys not working yet its just an example). There is no discrepency, these are hard numbers given by FUNCOM and they are damn good numbers to start with, but throwing around incorrect information will just screw things up later.
Ok i will try to explain it again to you. Funcom will show the 700k copies as sold on their books as they were sold to the retial companies. Those companies might have arrangements to return copies they do not sell to their customers back to funcom or they might not. This is a common business practices not just for this industry but for most companies that use third parties to sell their goods.
YES when most items are shipped ANYWHERE to ANYONE the originator marks them as sold. that is nowhere near the same as those items being ACTUALLY SOLD don't try to blow smoke up anyones a$$ with that bs. When a book is sent to a bookstore, its considered "sold" but you can be damn sure the author doesn't get royalties until a warm body buys it. Its the whole reason Funcom only says SHIPPED, as a matter of fact, you're the only person saying they sold 700,000 copies.
I am happy that you agree that they are infact listed as sold, I am sorry you have problems dealing with that fact. Actually ,sold is actually sold even if you do not want to admit it. Oh by the way yes an author gets royalties when his or her book is sold ot a bookstore. Oh i am not the one with issues. People such as yourself were the ones whinning that funcom was lying when they said they shipped 700k copies and then announced 400k+ subscribers. As someone else had first staarted screaming about these numbers I was pointing out how that could be. Sorry if the facts do not fit with your outlook on AOC.
By the way Thank you for adimitting that I am correct that standard buisness practices would have Funcom showing the 700k sold. Most people would not admit they were wrong as you have done. So gratz on admitting that.

it is not 400k sold it is 400 entering the world ie subscribing. You would buy and enter preroder codes from different companies on different accounts if you intent was to get all the items for one toon. THeir figures of over 700k sold and 110k CE editions were copies solds not preorders. This isn't exactly true seeing as nobody is subscribing to the game yet since everyone is still on their 30 free days. On top of this the article states that it is 400,000 people entered the world of Hyboria since it launched. On it being 700k copies sold if you read the article that I linked they stated it was 700k preorders and asked people who preordered to post their thoughts once they played it. Plus, that would make absolutely 0 sense which is what I was trying to figure out, why would 700k copies sell but only 400k people log in?
First, you do subscriber when you activate you keys. Now you might turn around and cancell said subscription and wait till your 30 days runs out to see if you like it but you have subsribed. They count copies of the game sold to amazon games stop and such as sold ( they might return some of the copies latter I guess) that is why there is a disparity between the 700k and the 400k number
From the Age of Conan website :
In total, Funcom is shipping around 700.000 copies of Age of Conan on day one.
The 700k is copies SHIPPED not sold. They used preorder numbers and then added to it to reach the number of copies of the game they would put out to retailers. Usually a safe bet is to double the number of preorders, which is why in their 400k announcement they state:
This amazing figure for a PC game shows that the positive pre-order trend has transferred into actual sales,
Again, the numbers are good, just make sure you are using the RIGHT numbers when hyping AoC.

I am using the right numbers.

How do you feel about advertising inside games?
