I think they are a direct response to all the rabid fanboi posts about how great the game is.
At least that's my theory.

Good thing you aren't a moderator then.
People wish to discuss/complain/whine or whatever, let them, you are free not to read them of course.
I recall when I first joined DAOC I was new to MMO's and I decided to play on one with an "average" number of players.
I regretted that decision once server populations started to fade as my server quickly grew dull and stagnant, while the most populated servers actually gained population.
Now I purposely try to find the highest population servers right from the start.... so I agree, start small, keep em full.
Yeah, i'll agree, replaying levels 1-20 won't be too fun, but even if you chose to, i'm pretty sure you'd blow through it in no time.
As to the lack of races? Not a big deal. In most games the racial differences are for appearance more than anything else. Rarely do they vary in abilities by much because people would view them gimped and they'd be hard to balance.
Take WOW for instance, a Gnome Warrior should have had 1/2 the strength of a Tauren, but that was never the case. And most games follow the same model.
But I can see where it still might not appeal. In the end, your choice is to go play another game.

so your saying I'll need to be grouped to protect myself constantly on a pvp server ? I dont want to group up and clear-grind quests for xp. I want to solo and read the quests and follow the storyline. I had hoped whatever pvp penalty that exists would at least allow me to finish quests solo without someone grave camping my corpse.
dunno if i want full pvp server now
It sucks mate i know but thats FFA PvP, if you dont have much PvP experience then maybe PvE is the way to go. There will still be PvP in the border lands and such on the PvE servers.
Yeah, good advice actually. With a FFA PVP server you learn to modify your class choices and play styles to avoid the ganking. From sticking to classes that stealth, or have speed bonuses, or other "flight" abilities to making sure you move through the back woods and never on the main highyways, all are techniques used to avoid the gank.
If you don't want to follow the above, then grouping is another great way to go.
But if you prefer to pve solo on your tank character, probably not a great idea, at least until you get good idea of how to play the game first.
What is your favorite fantasy character type?
