For a game based around the idea of Technological Singularity I'd expect a more transhumanist approach, something like Orion's Arm (www.orionsarm.com/; no, it's not a game!).

A Dune MMO would be horrible. Nothing but big sandbox(a real sandbox, that little kids play in. Not the gaming term.) . I know Star Wars Galaxies has Tatooine, but its not the only planet, lol.
Seems you haven't read any of the Dune books. Sure, Arrakis is important but, what about
-Caladan (Somewhat similar to South-East Asia)
-Kaitain (Imperial capital, huge cities)
-Salusa Secundus (Devastated by nuclear weapons, full of mutant beasts)
-Giedi Prime (Extremely polluted world)
-Bela Tegeuse (Darkness, bioluminescent creatures)
-Rossak (Small inhabitable area, poisonous creatures)
-Ecaz (Jungle planet)
-Ix (Technologically overdeveloped, underground cities)
-Many other, less detailed worlds like Harmonthep or Tupile.
A skill/attack/technique I've always wanted to see in a combat-oriented MMORPG is the move Substitute from Pokémon. It drains 1/4 of your (maximum) HP and puts it in a separate HP account used as a shield, preventing any HP loss until it's destroyed.
I.E.: Your Max HP is 100 and you've got 30 left, against someone who hits 30 damage. Lowering your HP seems counterintuitive but, if you do use this move, you get down to 5 HP while creating a 25 HP "shield". Opponent attacks for 30 damage; he "kills" the shield (25 HP) but the damage doesn't get to your real HP; you've survived an additional hit, extremely useful if you've poisoned your opponent previously, or if your opponent's attack consumes some resource (e.g.: mana points).
I'm developing a MUD server system with dynamic worlds and ease of customization as my primary objectives (I've detailed the kind of game I have in mind in some older threads), and it would be a honor for me if you wanted to use it for your experiments. Gimme maybe a month or 2 to have a stable Linux version and translate the basic documentation to English.
One of our test servers even had its own dynamic climate and ecology systems; I'm trying to make the system as flexible as I can, so I need this kind of challenges.
Well, I'm a de-lateralized lefty, a left-handed person forced as a child to use the right hand until most laterality is lost, and I still tend to choose the left way over the right; this might (or might not) indicate some relation between brain laterality and maze path tendences.
I only use my left hand to draw and the right hand does everything else. Any neurologists here?
