the game has had so many new features added, it bears very little resemblance to the original release.Battleground Europe is the closest thing to fighting a real war you can get on a computer. a persistant battlefield running 24 hours a day. a place where there is something for everyone. you want instant intense action, just spawn 1 of 7 different infantry types at a captured depo in an enemy held town, or at a nearby mobile spawn, or jump from an airplane as a paratrooper right into the action.if you like you can choose from a variety of different tanks, or scout cars, spawned at a forward base not too far from town. if you are more conservative and patient, you can choose to be an anti-tank gun, or anti-aircraft gun, setup in an ambush/defenseive postition,or you could choose to ba a truck to tow AT/AA guns, resupply ammo,or deploy as a mobile spawn near town.
if the ground war is not for you, you can choose from different fighter and bomber aircraft. bomb towns and forward bases in a Close Air Support role, or bomb enemy factory's in a strategic role to slow production of equipment and new vehicle types (BE has a crude timeline called Reasearch and Developement Phase that see more advanced equipment as time goes by in a campainge) or go on fighter combat air patroll.
Battleground Europe,to some, is just a game. to most, it is a real and bitter war. morale has a big effect on the war. some days your getting beat,on the defensive. other days your on the attack, beating down the enemy.
well said sparre, i too have been addicted to Battleground Europe since july of 2001. i have tried a few other sims, like locon and far cry, but like you said, expectations are too high. the only games i can play now are offline games like Rome Total War and Oblivion.
the developers of Battleground Europe created a tool called Wiretap that allows an external program to access game information data. a player named xiper developed a program called Battleground Europe Game Monitor (BEGM) that is available for download to anyone, no game account needed.
BEGM monitors events ingame as they happen, such as captures, brigade movements, and factory status,in detail. the map shows troop concentrations, firebase ownership, and other data. the map can also be set as your desktop wallpaper, updated from 1-15 minutes.alerts are sent in realtime.
if you want to see what Battleground Europe is all about, information you cant get from mere screenshots and video clips, then i highly recommend this free download. http://begm.sourceforge.net/
the screenshot from slamen there has the post render filter on, makes for a good quality picture, looks like he has fairly high res too. looks good
What characteristics of an MMORPG do you look at most?
