    Without breaking the NDA, let me put it this way:
    
    Before I was accepted into the WAR Closed Beta recently, I was playing some other games which are pretty damn good - my favorite of which was Mass Effect. In addition, I was (am) working on our WAR Guild site, so what time I had to game was devoted to only the best stuff I have.
    
    After starting the WAR Closed Beta, I am not playing any other games. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Period. I'm even finding it hard to devote more of my time to the guild site than the game.

    Granted, we knew they were issuing invites to qualifying CE Preorder buyers since this last Friday. That doesn't change the fact that there would be almost no reason to do so if those people didn't get at least 1 week of closed play before open starts. I guessed two based on the developer's comment of a two week open beta, and a week or less headstart period.
    
    If they actually go through all the invite to closed beta stuff and then those people get less than 5 days of play, it's almost as bad as them not getting invited in the first place. If they throw CE Preorders a bone throw them a bone with some meat on it, not a gnawed up and nasty old bone. ;) Anyhow, we'll find out soon enough, and the only people that really know are Mythic.

  • Just to add more information here:
    
    I am a CE Preorder buyer who has been in an "applied" state for the Closed Beta for some time. I just recently (two nights ago) received an invitation to the Closed Beta (not the open). It was the full email that other closed beta applicants received.
    
    They would not still be sending out Closed Beta invitations if they were anywhere near the Open Beta phase. That tells me that while they are going to try and distribute the client that the Closed Beta is using to try and alleviate bandwidth and timing issues for the Open Beta, they are still going to stay in a Closed phase for at least another 2-3 weeks.
    
    If I had to hazard a guess, knowing what I know about the proposed Headstart times and Open Beta times, I would guess that they will run the Closed Beta until Aug 27th, prepare for the Open Beta while doing so, and launch the Open Beta around Aug 29th/30th. It should run for two weeks, placing early Headstart around Sept 12th. That gives 6 days for early Headstart, and they can give 3-4 days for standard Headstart.
    
    Note: this is all speculation, but based upon what I'm seeing it can't be that far off.
