Typical response from someone that never played EQ1 during the prime days and started MMO's with WoW.  EQ1 is dead now, you are correct but without EQ's success their would be no WoW.   So before you go blindly bashing EQ1, maybe you should show it some respect.  I agree now a days EQ1 has for the most part has a bad community because it is made up of hardcore raiders and diehard EQ1 fans and not many casual players like the old days.

That is exactly what I am talking about, HOW DARE YOU SAY WHAT I HAVE AND HAVE NOT DONE! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT (AS USUAL)!!! I was in the #2 guild during VELIOUS and started in Sept 1999.

It is not a fact that WoW has less scum then EQ1, that is your opinion based on your experince in both games.   Personally WoW has the worst community in any MMO I have ever played, were as EQ1 had the best community in any MMO i played.

We can agree to disagree, for those inclined to sicken themselves check out Sam “Da Man” Deathwalkers posts (just google him), this is what I saw in EQ1 in the Tunare server. It was a daily event to run into in game idiots just out to ruin others fun.

Instances ruin the flow of a game, it ruins the need to have a go
od community.   Instances are okay in small doses and can bring a fun element to any game but to make a game full of Instances is just stupied and should not happen in MMOs but Gaming companies just like most companies rather take easy road and make Instances because its easier to balance.

That’s your opinion, mine is I don’t want to be around kiddies, notice EQ1’s free play time is scheduled exactly when the kiddies are out from school! Instancing allows my friends and I to enjoy gaming, not be trained by moron children repeatedly.

Back when EQ1 was the top dog, guild leaders talked to each other, they worked out plans so that each guild could take its shot at the big raid mobs.  The community worked together to stop asshats.   I remeber many many times in my days playing EQ1 were a group would not allow someone in because they had a really bad rep.   The community is what made EQ1 so great, the gameplay was fun but the Community rocked.

Talked to each other?! Who are you kidding?! We HATED each other, the game was designed to have guilds fight over spawns, kill mobs to “cock block” other guild advancement and that is EXACTLY went on! Maybe YOU are the one who wasn’t there, does anyone else remember 7 day mob spawns and the Euro guilds killing them all before we Americans could even log on perpetually preventing our characters from advancing and SOE doing nothing about it.

EQ1 had the best Community of any MMO I have ever played to date and I have played just about everyone.
That’s your experience many would disagree.

It is really too bad that some of you first time MMO players didnt get to play EQ1 during its hay days, it was amazing, you cannot find another game like EQ1.  Nothing will bring back that feeling of fear while explore some new far off place.  Nothing will bring back the hundreds of pages of information I wrote down in Note books to keep track of my quest.  Nothing will bring back the feeling after finishing your Epic quest.  Nothing will bring back the feeling of finally after all your hard work dinging lvl 50 (old level cap).

Yep, and nothing like being in LGuk looking for a group and some Stars prick camping the SSoY for 72 hours straight EVERY weekend to sell them on Ebay with guild buddies logging on to his Necromancer to continue the farm going perpetually gimping every Warrior playing the game honestly because of greed. Instancing would have ended his little party!

Sorry but EQ1 was the best PVE MMO ever made to date.  It was not for PvPers and I understand that UO was the best PvP MMO.   I wish some company would create a world like EQ1 with FPS combat.
Dont get me wrong, I played WoW for about 2 years and I enjoyed my time but it was nothing compared to EQ1.  WoW I rarely ever did Pick up groups because the community sucked as did most of the players.  In EQ1 pick up groups were as common as breathing because for the most part the Community was great and players knew how to play.  The few expections in EQ1 were quickly weeded out of the community and would not get invites to groups or guilds.

Pick-up groups are not fun, some of the worst players I ever met played EQ1 and it didn’t help the game was difficult and didn’t allow people to watch TV and play or Mommy made them go to bed right when you got that pick-up group together after “lfg” for 2 hours, wasting 2 more waiting for the cleric to recover his corpse and come to the camp, etc, etc.

    • The drama did not come from World Of  Warcraft people, the worst scum I have met in EQ1 and the best people in WoW, thats a fact. This board slams WoW continually, well here is a news flash, EQ1 is a horrible, ancient p.o.s. that has no players.

There is a reason for it, from being trained at level 13 in Oasis by bored Uber guild jerks, people being spawn whores sitting in the best loot camps 72 hours straight by passing their account to friends to play, to ripping newbies off in trades. EQ1 doesn't have all the instancing WoW does, and the nuts here don't like instancing, well I want instancing to avoid the nuts like the ones here!

You are not alone my friend. There are plenty of us out there that want a EQ style game again.

Im not too sure we will ever get what we want but there is a player base for that type of game.

      We can hope.

Vanguard has proven that is not true, the player base for that type of game is miniscule and just a couple of blather mouths on this board would play.

Again you obviously have no clue why Vanguard failed.

Vanguard had a huge following prior to its being released. It had a huge following of players that were greatly anticipation a game that was more in the "EQ Style".
Now when this game finally released and it was still in rough BETA and was nearly unplayable on most rigs out there, including ones that were way above even recommended specs, it got a sadly deserved UGLY UGLY name.

So please dont use Vanguard as  "Why games like EQ dont work" fodder. EQ like gameplay had nothing to do with the Vanguard failure. How about we wait and see if a EQ style game gets released that is actually playable before we throw that out there.
Vanguard is actually playable now but the bad taste that it caused with the release has killed it.

P.S. Why must people alwasy argue that no one wants to play a specific type of MMO? There are obviously people who want to play this type of MMO because there are people who say that they want to play this type of MMO.
Why do you care if people want to play this type of MMO, be it 30 people or 300,000? I dont want to play the pieces of crap that started with WoW and have incorperated pretty much every other MMO to come out since then but i dont care if you want to play them.

You are the one with no understanding of why Vanguard failed, Brad himself stated that the old EQ model was one of the reasons, and hostility of his forums to WoW players was also stated as a reason./ I will tell you why you won't get your game...30 people isn't enough to generate the income to PAY for it. You will get WoW clone after WoW clone till enough people play a new game with EQ1 style gameplay.  The business executives are well aware a EQ1 style game will flop and they will be firing employess in the parking lot and getting axed themselves just like happened at Sigil
