Don't go for LOTRO if PvP is anywhere near the top of your check list. It's a really great PvE game but the pvp side, monster play, is under developed and has some serious issues. It's only there as a diversion.
It has many issues but the one of the bigegst ones is the code just isn't up to fast paced pvp. Getting jumped by 5 or 6 people means you see scolling damage like mad and your 'instant' skills not firing off for up to 4 or 5 seconds meaning generally that you are dead before you can act. It seriously needs some optimisation but it could be fun if they put the time in to get it right.
The other thing is pvp here is all about crowd control, more so than any other game I've played. As well as being unable to act due to the coding, expect to be rooted, dazed, stunned, knocked down en mass. I enjoyed monsterplay for a long time but only by not taking it seriously and expecting the odds to be totally stacked against me. And that leads to the final main issue I have.
The under lying principle of Monsterplay is that a 'creep' should never be the equal of a 'freep'. Fair enough if you want to keep the outcome of every battle in line with the books i.e. creeps loose every 'balanced' face-off. Not much fun for the creeps though. Most freeps wqant some reward for their journey to level 50 and this is it. Superiority.

Is this true? I thought companies that banned people for playing within the confines of the game were a thing of the past. Or are these players exploiting to reach in to some sort of safe zone? That's a serious mark against Funcom in my book. If some thing isn't allowed then they should make it impossible to do. Banning people for just playing the game and coming a cropper, they don't deserve to succeed.

6 cities wouldn't be hard to populate. Wow has 6 (now 8) cities and most of them are fairly bumping all the time. WAR might not have as many servers as Wow but each realm can have the same number per server on WAR. I think the cities will be too crowded at launch. But I think that is a good thing till they get the other ones up and running.
Thats because WoW players spend huge amount of their time in the cities because of:
1. Auctionhouse
2. Arena
3. Battleground
4. Chatting while waiting for party
In WAR world will be more smooth populated.
So where to you see players coming together to do the social bit or to just hang round and kick their heels? In WoW it was in IF, SW or Shatt. As you say, players stood together between quests or BG's checking out each others gear, duelling, etc.
IMO it hurts the game a little if there isn't some where to hang round during those lulls. No one is actively levelling 100% of the time. LOTRO doesn't have one, neither did DAoC when I played it. Older games like Legend of Mir did and they were better for it.
Personally I wouldn't want to see housing not just because I think it's irrelevent in the spirit of WAR (Guild barracks... that's another question entirely) but also because it would sap the bustling social side of the cities. I can't see how encouraging people to retreat to there own spaces wouldn't really.

Yes, Housing is a possiblity in the future, as stated in several interviews throughout the months.
- Not at launch
- Not anytime soon
- And maybe Guild only housing they are not sure yet.
A good chance but not a definite and not soon. :) Give it a year and I'm sure we will get something.
I'm glad they're not planning personal housing. The same reason as i'm glad there's only going to be 2 cities, it makes for a feeling of community. Unless they were planning truely massive server populations I wasn't sure how they were going to populate 6 cities.

I can't believe arguments like this even exist.
FACT - WAR is the only good MMORPG coming out for the next 2 years
FALSE - KOTOR is in development by Bioware
FACT - WAR will be good
FALSE - Mythic cut 6 major cities and 4 classes
FACT - WAR is a great place to go for people who play WoW and don't raid
FALSE - KOTOR will be much better
FACT - WAR is a competitive and addicting game with incentive
FALSE - WAR is just like WoW with polished graphics
Don't like it? We don't care. Wait till it comes out and look at the reviews on metacritic of it. Till then it's only speculation.
I don't like it already since Mythic decided to cut content in order to please shareholders but if I find it in the bargain bin a year from now then I will probably pick it up
I was going to ignore this post as it's pretty silly and an obvious trolling attempt but I couldn't resist.
Have you got some inside knowledge on KOTOR mmo as there's no real detail out yet apart from a couple of screenies and the annoucement? There has been nothing released yet detailing the gameplay, features or anything. Whether it has PvP or is exclusively pve, etc. & It's an almost 100% guaratee that it will not be out in 2 years regardless of what they claim now. MMO's that have less than 3 years dev time are one month wonders and most good dev studios know that now. 5 years is pretty much the minimum time to put a great MMO together but then you're so full of it you would know that lol. Wow was in development for 7 years. Bioware are up there with the best so what do you think they'll do?
You say it's exactly like WoW shows you're either ignorant of the facts or full of bull. I'm not even going to go there, check out any one of the other 1000 or so threads on that. The art styles are similar and the similarities stop there.
Taking the cities and classes out will be a bad thing? Personally I think it's a great move. All those cities would have fragmented the player base and individually would have felt like ghost towns. and the loss of 4 classes is really no hardship. You still have 20 left to choose from. Most games ship with between 4 to 6 classes.
Was the cut made to please share holders? yes, indirectly. They have to meet their Autumn '08 ship date or EA's quarterly figures will look bad of the last quarter '08 and first in '09. WAR is going to make them a bomb.
The fact is the could have released the game in June but it would have been the buggy mess that Vanguard and, to a lesser extent, AoC were. The extra time they've had is starting to show in the new animations and spell effects we're seeing now compared to 8 months ago before they closed the beta down not to mentuion the new gameplay features like keeps and stuff. It was a good move IMO and proves they care about quality. Certainly nothing to complain about.
