Here I am, being cool and writing a blog entry so everyone can see my comments about current games and be awesome like so many others. Awesome to the MAX.
I was really looking forward to Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising as my next MMO to play while waiting for Warhammer: Age of Reckoning to finally be released. I want to play a Rome-based MMO that doesn't suck, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon. Unfortunately with G&H down the drain, there is nothing close to being released that actually looks as if it could be decent enough to keep my interest for several months. So now I am stuck with WoW for even longer... I enjoy having something to log into now and then, even if it gets boring after about ten minutes.
I beta tested Tabula Rasa recently, and I'll be damned if it wasn't the most boring thing I've played since the latest generic, Asian, Free2Play, isometrically-viewed grindfest that I downloaded because I was so bored waiting for a good game to come out that I would honestly waste my time on this crap and think it could possibly be good enough to retain my interest. But I digress.
Tabula Rasa is not the worst game out there, but the game play was incredibly boring and there was not much to it. I played a little bit passed the instanced intro area, and I knew this game wasn't for me. I believe it could be for a good amount of people, but it's lacking in the fun department in my opinion. It's not groundbreaking or anything, and I think everyone knows by now not to expect anything like that from this game, or any game for that matter. In any case, TR will definitely keep many people busy until some good games come out, but for those that think it sucks, well... then you're probably like me and not having luck finding fun in most games out there at the moment.
I am waiting for probably the same three MMO's as most other people to finally be released, and I can only hope that at least one of them lives up to the hype and becomes the next game I play for years. Here's to 2008 being the year of years for the MMORPG genre. I mean, it can't possibly suck as much as this year, right?
Currently waiting on:
- Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
- The Chronicles of Spellborn
- Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures

In the last 3 years(!) only ONE new MMORPG passed the 1.2% marketshare and that was LOTRO.
Now LOTRO hangs in there at 0.9% marketshare. Oh BTW LOTRO is ALSO launched in China :))
ALL other newly launched MMORPG of the last 3 years have 0.5% marketshare (makes you think don't you?)
That's about 100K subs or less.
According to Lord British (maker of Tabula Rasa) the game needed 0.8% marketshare to break even. TR made this barrier the first 4 months after release, now it's also sunken under at 0.5%
And guess who has a 62.2% marketshare with PAID subscription (trials and expired aren' t even counted...)
Just look how far driven off MMORPG.COM has come from 90% of the MMORPG PLAYERS base.
Blizzard released some really goodies on their new WotLK expansion (like ridable tank/artillery and group siege artillery and Hero classes).
You won't fnd ANY information on MMORPG while IGN.COM has pages and pages full of it.
MMORPG.COM just lost about ANY real world feeling with the active players of MMO's.
Result of this politics?
Hype - failure- hype - failure- failure-failure on every new launched MMORPG since Wow in a never ending circle.
Makes you all think what 62.2% marketshare just means...
Ok im not saying WoW doesnt have 8 million subs.
But I think that mmorpg chart is a bunch of bull you know why?
CoH and LOTRO have almost the same amount of subs!?!!?!?!
Theres no way, ive played both games, at once at one point and every server i played on CoH was empty and Every lotro server was always full.
Sorry but i think you need more col hard facts then that, meaning REAL numbers and not a freakin pie chart.
I could make a site and put a pie chart on it, you know what id be?
A guy who made a site and put a freakin pie chart on it!

I think you should probably go back to CoX and check out that population again. There are people literally everywhere you go in that game at all times. Lots of people.
A possibility of a video within the year is as close to Darkfall as anyone will get.
There are other better games full of PvP coming out relatively soon such as Age of Conan, Chronicles of Spellborn, and Warhammer Online, that you should probably either go with GW as something quick to pass the time, and then switch to one of those while still being able to play GW now and then if you want, since there's no monthly fee, or just wait until they're released.
The grind in L2 is just not worth it. It's also outdated now and not fun. Though there will always be someone on here that will disagree with me.
It's almost kinda sad that I find this to be more entertaining than any other MMO out at the moment, hopefully until AoC anyway.
It's a pretty good game. There are a lot of mini-games, kart-racing, and golf (which I've yet to try out), which are all pretty fun, as well as player housing and pets (which you can have one of at a time) that roam around outside that you can teach tricks to help you in battle, though they take so frustratingly long to teach them to get better at the tricks, that I probably won't even bother.
The fights in the cog buildings are pretty fun, and the combat just anywhere is, for that matter, since you run into a cog and start a battle, and anyone can just join in, and it doesn't really matter.
It's like the only game out there where no one really minds if others help on their kills without their permission, no one's constantly harassing others, there's no trade chat going on with "WTS and WTB, etc." all the time, and everyone is either nice, or just ignores you.
Since the chat system is a speedchat that you just click and select sayings to talk, rather than actively typing everything out, because Disney doesn't want people cursing and yada, because, in all essence, it is a kids game. The only way you can type to each other, is if you add each other as a True Friend. I kinda prefer this kind of interaction though.
It's funny how a game with such limiting social barriers actually has the greatest social interaction I've seen to date, with the exception of DAoC.
It was made for kids, and the cartoony atmosphere isn't for everyone, but the game is very populated, the mini-games and such are fun, and the combat is unique and, well, also quite fun.
Doesn't look like the game world is all that big though, but I'll have to get back to you on that. Also, fi you're older and think you'd wanna play it, be prepared to be insulted by others for it.
I just started playing yesterday, and I've already had someone say, "Are you gay or something?" lol
Also, I think the devs have a good sense of humor that the older players might pick up on, but the younger probably woudln't even think about. Your house is called an Estate, and your pet is called a Doodle. A hint comes up during a loading screen that says something along the lines:
"To heal quickly after battle, go to your Estate and play with your Doodle."
I laughed. Hard.
lol that is the stupidest thing. They actually gave names to these characters and then have you give them another name? Wow, I couldn't wait to run into another Sid every 2 minutes. Way to make them characters on their own so as to completely eliminate the character customization portion of the game.
It may be slightly more fun than other crap 2D anime games, but "slightly more fun" when compared to "not fun at all" isn't exactly what I'd call a major success in the genre.
Not that these games will ever stop being developed as long as kids, adults, and predators who either can't afford, are too cheap, or wanna get as close to children as possible without it being illegal, respectively, are around and playing them.
Do you currently play a SOE published game?
