Every single FFA PvP MMO in the MMO history has mutated into a more carebear rule set. The ones that didnt mutated just died.
That's not true. Asheron's Call didn't die, and Darktide is the most populated server, which has FFA PvP and full looting.
I think good loot will exist in this game, it will just be difficult to hold on to. In AC, you drop the items with the highest value. In order to keep the items you use, you have to hunt for death items. This game is different because you will drop whatever you are wearing. So, you will need to keep backup equipment, and spend time getting more. While we don't know the details yet, expect very stat-based loot just as we are getting very stat-based character advancement.
What I don't understand is seeing people come here and say how disappointing the graphics and animations are. When has this game ever been about keeping up with the graphics race? This is an indie company. They don't have the virtually limitless resources that Sony and EA has. For them, sacrifices must be made at times. That may mean graphics and animations will need to stay below par. Graphics seem to me like a small sacrifice in order to get the game they are promising.
For a company their size, it makes perfect sense for them to take 10 years to craft what they are promising. Maybe EA or Blizzard could pull it off in 6 years, but that's because they have the juice.
For me, the graphics and art style looked a lot like Asheron's Call 2. It has something to do with the clunky way the characters ran, the shadowing, and the color palette, but this game reminds me of AC2. All the spell bolts flying around looked so much like Asheron's Call 1, I was shocked. The spell bolt with the two wobbly circles looked just like the shock wave spells from AC. Some of the fire bolts look almost exactly the same. The characters can also jump pretty high, as in AC. I would love to play another game where I can jump super high and run super fast.
I loved the vehicles more than anything. It made the game look like a cross between AC2 and Unreal Tournament 2004. For me, that's a good thing. This game really looks like it will bring features to the table that just aren't out there in any other game.
To anyone who just can't stand the graphics, take this advice. Get the game when it comes out, and fight through the ugly graphics and animations. I promise you won't even notice it after 3 days. Graphics aren't really a "long run" reason to hate a game. It's just one of those first impression hurdles you have to get over.
Spice? The stuff that gives you the power to run really fast in the Dune universe?
In the beginning, I used to be so good, that I could get crazy XP without even joining a squad. I remember taking out whole groups of infantry as an infantry myself. Lots of people were just bad at FPS games in the early months of this game, and I was highly experienced from other FPS games.
I remember that floating tank where you can strafe left and right, and the lavender colored laser it fired. Oh man, when I got into the gunnery position on that thing, watch out. Whenever I hit something, it made sort of a flower design. I was shooting down planes with that thing, from far away. The times I was a gunner in that tank were some of the greatest memories in an FPS I've ever had.
I never lasted up to the expansion, so I never experienced the game-breaking stuff. Still, this game was just incredible before the expansion. I have never played a game with battles as amazing as this one. I hope another developer makes a game that is like this one some day.
I think I'll come back and check it out. Can I still install from the original installation disks, or do I have to download the client all over again?
Most new MMOs barrow from WoW, so there's a good chance AC3 would too.
In this case, I would disagree. For one, Turbine already has a WoW clone. For two, they listen to their fans more than any developer I have ever seen. They are just as passionate about AC as the fans.
AC3 shouldn't be about bringing back AC2. If anything, AC2 should be a lesson of what not to do with AC3.
Do you Role Play?
