• • My MMO story idea.(A little long)

  • WARNING: My grammar is bad and I keep changing things as I write, please excuse any errors.

    Edit: Also I fail at writing.

    This takes place on Earth, The timeline is 2020-2050.

    
    General Back Story.

    2020 A.D: The world unites in a decision to move humanity forward to the future. The first Electric Plug Stations (EPS) for Electric cars are being built, Gas stations are a thing of the past. 3rd World Countries are advancing in a short period of time. Humanity starts to take the first step into making the lives of all humans easier. Robotic bodies have been mass produced for those with born with deformities or severely destroyed limbs and those with combat injuries.

     

    2026 A.D: The first large colony-city is set up on the Moon. People migrate by the millions, a new world and new hope for the colonization of our system. The moon is renamed Aether 1. Corporations and Country's start placing bids for pieces of land on Aether 1. Small conflicts break out as the lust for more power and control consumes the minds of the rich.

    
    2027 A.D: A strange plague starts to creep into major cities, People are randomly dying, and Specialists do not know how to treat the ailments. The North American Union launches an investigation and declares a major Biological attack has been launched on the citizens of the free world. 95% of the world’s population gets infected within a few months. People panic and economies collapses.

    
    2028 A.D: Scientist examine infected people extensively, A World Conference is held. The NAU reports its findings.

    A grave sickness has taken over our world, People are dying rapidly every day for no reason or objective, Thousands are losing their lives by the minute, We will overcome this page of history, We will rise and reach up to our future that is ahead, I know you all want answers...But we only have a few. This plague is a weapon used to rapidly destroy the human body, So far we have only confirmed that the weapon is the Nano technology classified as (NR-43), it causes different symptoms for different people. We have no way of defeating this so far. But do not give up hope, we need your strength! We WILL find a way to defeat this.

    As of now we are putting measures into place to preserve human life. All citizens that do not have NR-43 will be admitted citizenship in Aether 1; you will be given basic living conditions for you and your family.

    All those currently infected by NR-43 Will remain on earth until a way of removing or deactivating the nano machines has been created, you will also be given basic conditions, you are not allowed to leave designated cities. We will make living with this "thing" as painlessly as we can.

    Be strong.

    2028 A.D: A world wide revolt breaks out after the NAU speech is delivered; hindering the building of transport stations for un-infected citizens.NAU launches a campaign to stop the uprising. Religious organizations are calling the NR-43 a punishment from god. Cities have become lawless prisons. Havoc ensues inside them.

    
    2030 A.D: Robotic bodies have been used people whose body has deteriorated from NR-43; Cities have been slowly getting back into order. The first transport shuttles have been launched. People die by the millions from the NR-43. A portion of the population is immune to the Nano Machines; they are not allowed admission into Aether 1 for fear of contamination of the clean. Aid is sent from Aether 1 regularly, but after time the aid slows down to a screeching halt.

    
    2031-2051 A.D: People are starting to work together for the bleak future that awaits them. Those with robotic forms use the body's that have been given to them to build, repair and create for those who can’t. Few corporations stayed on earth, Aether separated itself as its own planet blocking out all communication with earth.

    2052 A.D: It has been 20 years since Aether 1 Shut all contact. People have rebuilt the cities to house the few million people left; Corporations have introduced a new economy. Robotic Forms have been updated to more of a human physique. The next generation to hold this broken world on its shoulders is growing.

    The World.

    The outside world slowly decays as the green plants try to take over its land. Suburbam areas are full of roaming A.I Combat Measures attack any humanoid targets that it sights. They were left active from the NAU during the riots and transport of the Un-Infected, How they stay powered up is unknown. It was used to scan for people infected with NR-43, Now it’s just rogue machinery. Most people make a living by salvaging items from the old world.

    The remaining populations moved to Formerly known New York City which has been renamed New Dawn City. The inner part of the city is a spotless visage of the future that was planned. The outskirts are weather and time worn ghettos. With plants growing rapidly up the walls, crumbling bricks. Giant walls where built as a visual sector boundaries.
     

    Staten Industrial Zone: Formerly known as Staten Island, Staten island has been completely warped into a industrial island, People can bring salvaged items from the old world to the industrial zone to be broken down into standard materials 80% of the buildings are industrial factory’s and shipping zones 20% are Standard Apartment Living. Due to pollution living on Staten is cheap.
     

    Bronx Culture Sector: Bronx has been turned into a small scale preservation project for different cultures. Each Genetic race has their own area. Each differs architect based on the culture. Due to the vast number of cultures, only a few were given large amounts of area, Each area has decides on granting branch cultures any land.

    Brooklyn Life Sector: This area has the same look of Staten, but it is used to provide Power,Warmth and Water to the citizen of New Dawn City. It processes the water from the atlantic ocean into drinking water. Few privately owned hospitals have been built there due to cheap construction costs.

    Manhattan Sector: Giant buildings tower into the sky. Constant construction takes place, Manhattan is constantly evolving to meet the demands of the growing population. Expensive apartments here.

    The Evolution Generation.

    
    People are no longer defined by their skin or gender, People are defined by their (Nano-Polarity), certain genes have subdued the nano machines and have started the new evolution of mankind. Nano-Polarity is based on genetics.

    Each race has their own way of communicating (A NET).

    (<Neuroid>")

    They were most hurt but the most gifted by NR-43. Their body could not survive the aggressive NR-43, slowly they lost control of their body and they were trapped inside a flesh prison, at first they were only in primitive robotic forms.

    The power they gained helped move the E-Generation Forward, The Nanite's increased their brain capacity to level of genius, Children at the age of 3 had the mind of a average 30 year old. They have created more realistic Robotic forms to blend with others; they have rebuilt cities and are the most helpful to the future.

    Evolution Trait: Enhanced mental strength, Born with a deformed body.
     

    Usual Look: Tall, Slender, Dressed very well, Emotionless faces.

    Usual Personality: Silent, Over Thinking, Helpful.

    NET: NeuroNET, Can communicate with others link to the NeuroSphere(Hacked Old Satellites). Can create mental rooms to talk with other Neuroids.

    (<Eo-43>)

    They do not consider themselves a race so the name Eo-43 was given to them as a identification. They usually keep to themselves. Blending into normal crowds.
    Eo-43 each have different strengths. They emit an aura from the magnetic field that surrounds us all. The aura’s strength varies from person to person. They can read the emotion of living things, They can create and Aura Shell(A Energy Body) to view things or talk with other of their kind. The abilities of the Eo-43 are endless.

    Evolution Trait: Aura Field, Aura Manipulation. Mind Reading and Emotion Reading. Strongest can manipulate their aura to effect physical matter.
     

    Usual Personality: Lazy, Paranoid, Judgmental, Lack Social skills.
     

    Usual Look: Pale, Dirty, Unclean clothes, Normal Human Figure.

    Net: AuraNET, A network that can not been seen by the human or robotic eye. Only the strongest technology can see it. Can view memory of dead Eo-43, And can send their mental memories into this network to take over another host body temporarily.

    (<Exiled-Citizens>)
    The ones who were left behind, They are supported by the other greater races. NR-43 does not seem to activate inside of them, They are a living memory of humans. They can give birth to children that gain a nano-polarity which makes them an essential part of the future.
    They bring cultures and values from all around the world into the one little city. They are the heart of society. Keeping strength even in the toughest times.
    Evolution Trait: None.

    Usual Personality: N/A(Depends on person)
     

    Usual Look: N/A(Depends on person.)
     

    Net: GridNET, A network that runs around the city, Full of information and plenty of “Explicit Stuff”

    (<ZP-01>)

    Not much is known about these people, After the NAU cut all contact, ZP-01 Where used as policing force to keep people in control. They were rejected from New Dawn City and left to fend for themselves in the outside world. Surveillance captures them lurking outside of the city walls. Due to the aggressiveness of their NR-43 they have been denied entry into the city. All children born with ZP(Zeta Polarity) are removed from the city.

    When one with Zeta Polarity dies, the nanites do not die with the body. The nanites take over the body and try sustain its life longer so they do not deactivate. They use the most primal commands of “Kill” “Eat” “Sleep”. There is no chance of reviving the persons humanity they need to be destroyed.

    Evolution Trait: Increased Muscle Mass, Lowered Intelligence, Zombification.
     

    Usual Personality: Uknown
     

    Usual Look: Unknown.

• • The truth to having a sucessful MMORPG.

  •                                        Knowing the Human Mind

     

     

    Having a good understanding of the human mind and interaction is the true guide making a successful MMORPG. Human Interaction happens all the time in a MMO's, From Buying Items to PvPing.

     

    Humans like control. Without order there is chaos. Rules and guidelines inside the gaming world makes players feel safe. Humans do not feel safe if there are no rules. They will shy away from games that do not have rules.

     

    Humans like to identify things and give them labels. Humans can identify people from the items they wear or the class they choose.

     

    Edit: Humans also label by the level of another Playable and Non-Playable Characters in a Online world.

    Example:People choosing elf/pretty races are considered. Childish/Loser.

     

     

    Humans like to be guided in a world. Feeling lost and unguided makes a human uncomfortable.

     

     

    I don't know a single thing about psychology, This is just a personal Opinion.

  • What should determine success in MMO Worlds.

     

    Time or Skill?

     

    Time: Johnny McSomething plays 6 hours a day has the best stuff in the game. But sucks at playing it.

     

    Skill: Steven 'O Whatshisname plays 1 Hour on week days and 3 on week ends he is very skilled at the game. But fails at getting good items due to time limitations.

     

    If both of them fought. Who should win?

    i agree with you m8 about the fact graphics arent everything, but if you think about it, is a game with good graphics going to pull you into the game? yes it is, are bad graphics going to? no, the main reason games concetrate on graphics is to litrally catch the attention of gamers. but like you say i also think the content is the most important part, but for a game company its the graphics which will get you players,  you wont find out what the content is like until you actully play it right? so they do that to grab the eye

    A shiny pile of poop is still a pile of poop.

     

    I would rather have a bad looking game so it did not take up much resources so they could actually make a good game instead of...poop.

  • I allways wondered how people PvPed.

     

    I'm someone who PvP's my myself. I never fight weak or people around my level, I allways look for the best to fight. I sometimes handicap myself and no wear armor or use low level weapons/armor. I feel the only way to get better at a game is to fight the best.
