so glad i spent a minute of my life reading and posting about this...
SWG dies, SOE and the current players lose
SWG dies without any classic servers being released. SOE, the current payers and the vets lose
in short...we all lose
2009 is such an optimistic guess. this game (Bioware's first) will promise the world and take at least til late 2010 before we will see the game. it might even be the beta, it all depends on what they want to implement and who they have to do that with.
you guys paid $600 for yours? damn we Aussies got shafted big time. we were paying $1000 at launch (and our dollar was something like 95 US cents at the time).
i recently picked mine up for $750 (with MGS4) and i think its one of my best buys so far. i think the thing that really makes it shine is when you get it connected to the net (wireless set-up at a friends place usually used for LAN gaming was used for the PS3 and we even did some PS3 LAN gaming too
). i think $750 was a good investment for a console that i have no doubt that i will be using for at least the next 4 years (works out to be $200 a year) and serves as a blue ray player. heck if any decent MMO's come out i might even be playing the thing for longer.
yes i am a vet and yes i would love to see classic servers for this game. however being a gamer i dont like to see my fellow gamers forced into gamelessness in the middle of a MMO winter (same old games coming out over and over).
i see the most likely situation that will arise is Lucas Arts canning SOE's SWG license as soon as this new MMO comes out. what are your views on this? how should SWG proceed? what games will you move to (some will even if SWG stays afloat)
i feel this community needs to have a voice in this new MMO and needs some help in dealing with this news. ex Auto assault players would know how hard it is to suddenly (without your consent) stop playing an MMO that you have poured time into
SWG may not be the best MMO out there but it sure is different. and in this MMO winter thats always a good thing
edit: added in the last line
What aspect of MMORPG's are you more into?
