>This is taken from a Wikia about the freedom of speech....
Yeah, because Wikipidia is the most reliable source on ANYTHING...
Further the documents you cite aren't even ratified nor are they enforcible as law with the exception of the United States Constitution. And your understanding of that latter document is obviously lacking. If you know anything about the U.S. Constitution at all you would know that it limits and enumerates the power of the U.S. GOVERNMENT, not corporations or private entities. If you had a 'right' to 'free speech' at say your workplace in the U.S., no company could fire you for using language of a racist nature or even for telling a customer to frack off. Try either and see what happens.
Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but I get tired of the 'freedom of speech' people. A person who doesn't know or understand their rights has none.
IF you can get a grasp of what data is flowing, and how it's handled there is a LOT one could do with the source code. For example one could figure out ways to automate tasks in EvE and write the code into a 'hacked' client. Or if you're even more enterprising you could just transfer the datum from the client to a secondary program that would interact with the client to automate the tasks. Either way it could cripple the game's economy which is one of the things that make the game work as well as it does. And that's just one example from the top of my head.
15) TRAVEL - navigating a dangerous world could be more exciting than any combat...especially at the lower levels. I remember making the run from Freeport to Qeynos as a lvl 16 wizard in order to purchase my copy of invisibility (because I was told that was the only place to buy it...ah to be a noob again). It was my first experience running through Kith forrest at night (undead baddies all over), through Highhold (and the guardian orcs) and the Karanas. Died twice in the Karanas, once to ghouls and once to a griffon, then a kindly shaman bestowed me with spirit of the wolf (first time I'd ever had it cast on me) and I finally made it to Qeynos. I was completely lost in the game...immersed...for FOUR HOURS and many years and games later I still remember that run. Luclin and Planes of Power pretty much ruined that aspect of the game. BOAT !!
If this really galls all the naysayers as much as their hystrionics would lead us to beleive, then they really only have one choice...unsubscribe. That's IF they even play the game, which I'd wager most of the complainers don't. Why do I say that's their only course of action? (besides bloviating on a web forum) Because the company has said they're going to do it, they've made their decision. And as consumers that's our only real recouse, to buy or not to buy. The rest is just so many 1's and 0's scattered about the internet.
NCSoft is a company. Companies exsist to make a profit, like it or not, that's why they exsist. They don't exsist to pander to our every whim and you have NO rights unless you are somehow damaged or incur a loss through negligence of the company. Companies are going to do what it takes to remain profitable, and the addition of 'advertising' is what NCSoft has come up with to continue providing it's playerbase with the same (or better ) level of service that they've been providing without raising subscription fees or charging for content updates. It's really quie surprizing that they've left it as an option that can be turned off. If I were looking to place advertisments for my product in a game like this, no way I'd be paying the company if I knew my ads were 'optional'. It has been mentioned earlier in this thread that product placement in video games is nothing new, everything from the soundtracks to the background graphics have been ad laden since at least the release of the first Tony Hawk skating game if not before. And, as mentioned before, these game companies get paid to place these products yet it hasn't brought down the prices of the games one cent. I bet the people complaining about NCSoft's decision still buy those games though.
Most of what I see is just the typical anti-coporate sentiment that is pervasive in much of the youth of the world. One thing to remember though, without all those eeeeeviiill corporations you wouldn't have all that stuff you want because it wouldn't exsist.
I just cancelled my TR account about 2 weeks ago. I played in the open beta and had heard about the mechs/PAUs back then so that's nothing new. Also, since live release they've made me reallocate my attribute and skill points no fewer than 3 times. And each time they did I needed to relearn the rubric where each ability was affected how much by which points.
And to top it all off, when they upped they mob hitpoints they made the game completely unfriendly to soloing (yeah fanbois I know you're all gonna disagree with that but my experience is what it is) which is what I did a lot in TR because the communication/chat/LFG system was weak at best (though I loved the built in voicechat for teams). Also I saw it mentioned earlier that specialist weapons were nerfed to death...I second and third that. No way I should be able to obliterate a target with 5 shots from a rifle but do next to no damage with an RPG launcher.
The game could and should have been so much better, and might have been if they'd actually decided what they wanted it to be before launch. Instead they make major sweeping changes that make the game completely different than what it was the day before. I got the feeling they rushed this one out the door to be honest, and regret plunking down my $$$ for the box and drink coaster. This one's already on it's way out, I suggest folks steer clear.
What characteristics of an MMORPG do you look at most?
