    Sound Card: Onboard
    OS: 64 bit Vista
     

    Questions:
    How important is the Case? I'm not into fancy case setups, just what gets the job done and will work with the components.

    Currently I'd prefer a single GPU but I'm open to upgrading to a dual GPU down the road. Is 800w PSU overkill for this set up? How about if I slotted a second 4850?

    Motherboards...I've no clue. How does this one look with a single GPU & no soundcard. How would it look with 2 GPU and a soundcard?

    Cooling:  I live in Phoenix. It's hot...all the time. Will case fans be sufficient. I'm leary of liquid cooling as I (ir)rationally fear liquid and electronic mixing. Would fan cooling be better/worse for multiple GPU's compared to liquid?

    Overclocking...I'm too much of a noob to do it so it's not an issue.

    
     

    *  Lose the ATI; use NVidea.  With the appropriate MB (Asus is good), of course.  Be sure it can handle SLI, even if you do not plan to use it right away.

    *  CoolerMaster cases will keep it cool.  Get more fans.

    *  Be careful that the Video Card you get does not come pre-overclocked.  Make sure to get one that is SLI capable (for the future).  If you can afford it, get two now. :)

    *  Get a decent Sound Card

    * SyncMaster 244T (or whatever is current) Monitor

    Why NVidea instead of ATI?  I've never been a ATI person before but their current cards look pretty good all in all.  The MBs that I'm looking at all support SLI or Crossfire.

    The alternate case I'm looking at is a Coolermaster.

  • I think fluke is the wrong word.  Many take that to mean Blizzard was just lucky and they clearly are not that.  However, I doubt that even the WoW developers expected it to become the behemoth that it is.  There's always a certain amount of luck in putting out a new product no matter the business.  Blizzard had some good timing and a very good product that appealed to the established MMO cmmunity and they drew in their own established fans who had never played MMOs.  They did mainstream/primetime TV advertising which I think is a first.

    However, you are more accurate to say that it is an anomoly which should not be the 'measuring stick'.  A lofty goal, but not an expectation for future games (at least not in the immediate future).
