I'm asking this because Mythic is obviously building on the foundation of DAoC for WAR it stands to reason that if you played DAoC it might give us insight into what WAR will be, and not be like in terms of core mechanics of gameplay.
I played DAoC at launch with my EQ guild. We wanted something different from EQ, and DAoC was it.
I remember the smooth launch, the amazing scenery, and the first time I wandered out into the frontiers to check things out, and got into RVR. I HATED PvP up to that point. 100% dyed in the wool carebear was I. But that first night, it stoked a fire in me, and I was hooked.
I played for about 6 months, I quit for one reason. No kidding, I got bored with the PVE grinding. I HATED IT. To the core did I detest the PVE in DAoC. I wanted to be out PVPing, and wa unhappy Mythic didn't deliver on their "PVP/RVR from level 1!" promise (yes, they in fact did promise that, hell I think it was on the box to be honest with you)
I'm looking forward to WAR actually delivering on that part. I'm fine with PVE, but PVE is in the end, dull. It's the same thing, over and over. Go kill some mindless computer entity. RVR/PVP was always a dynamic situation. The more "open" it was, the more exciting it is. BG/Scenarios are OK, but they tend to break down easily into Zerg to Objectives. Be interesting to see if WAR's Scenario's are as prone to becoming PVE rushes as WOW's AV is.
I am just wondering if you got your 93 Nerd Score by speaking like Yoda.
"And if did so, why'd you quit?" If I did 'So' as in listen to the Peter Gabriel album? I did 'So' several times, it's really good.
"100% dyed in wool carebear was I", my young padawan.
"what WAR will be, and not be like in terms of .." This is a bit Ying Yang to me.
"I HATED PVP up to that point...I got bored with PVE grinding, I HATED IT". So now we've established you hate PVE and you hate PVP... I guess you're looking for a game that's all crafting and chatting.
"to the core did I detest the PVE in DAoC" ... You mean to the Molten Core? Who are you asking?
"I am looking foward to WAR Actually delivering on that part." On what part, you just started a paragraph. Your last paragraph finished with some lies about what was printed on the DAoC box. You want WAR to not have imaginery lies on their box?
Then after that you go on about something including WoW battlegrounds and a diatribe about PVP being more challenging than PVE. If I were a programmer, I could make a PVE encounter that would whipe out your guild seven times a week and twice on Sunday. PVE is as challenging as you make it. If you just zombie your way through PVE encounters "oh no, we cannot try this dungeon without a Priest or Cleric, by the way, my bra-strap is a little too tight, can you help me out?" then yeah, PVE is boring. But it turns out that PVE and PVP are both programmed by the same species. In PVP there's a little more random factor, but in the end, it's the people with the best gear that win. If you equalize the gear, it's rock paper scissors, just a random draw. 'Oh, no, PVP takes skill', that's the biggest lie in MMO's. PVP doesn't take any more skill than PVE. People who are shitty at PVE (90% of the players) are shitty at PVP, and vice versa.
That is a completely made up statistic. I have never met somebody who was great at PVP and then sucked at PVE but I meat all kinds of people who are awesome at raiding but are garbage in PvP. I imagine since it works one way that this means there are people who can't raid a dungeon but own in some pvp.

how much does anyone want to bet that funCON does a nge on the game in the next few months
i mean funCON sucks and this patch blows no one likes it and people are ashamed that they even went out and got it. age of CONan needs to be shutdown and forgotten about.
this game has turned into nge part 2 and anyone want to bet warhammer will fail?
If people are expecting WAR to be a WoW killer, they are in for an unpleasant surprise. It'll probably get most of the DAoC crowd and some of the Warhammer table top crowd though.
I still think it will be the second biggest mmo in the western market, only to WoW.

Well let's see..
Between beta testing WAR... *pondering* what drugs Mark Jacobs is using.. and *sighing* when I read the totally craptacular FAQ that described *Origins*...
I've been speculating to myself that I know why Mythic had to sell out to EA... as well as starting a betting pool with myself as to what the EA top brass was smoking.
So basicly I guess my new game is gambling.
Hope you're wrong....fear you may be correct.
Ex DAoCer here, playing WAR beta, check sig.

I would rather wait until open beta. That way the game will be finished. I don't want to play a buggy unfinished game. If I wanted to do that I would play AOC
And this is why you should never, never ever get into any beta for any game. You simply want a chance to play the game before release. where those of us that actually try to improve the game tend to get picked for beta's more often then others. You don't want to beta test, you want to take a test drive.
On the flip side you should thank him for stating he would rather wait until Open. He isn't trying to take your beta spot and not much will change in 1 month from Open Beta testers. So in the end, Open Beta will basically be your free glimpse of the game.
How many players does an MMO need to be considered a success in today's market?
