I was just wondering why lots of people seem to hate WoW with a passion. I never played the game past level 10, but I thought it was the biggest P2P game out there. This being said...you would think that more people would be talking about the game being awesome instead of most being saying things like "Shut up and go back to WoW". Are they angry just because it's a casual game...and some people think it's hardcore? I was just wondering what some people thought. I was actually thinking of playing WoW because I have some friends that play it, but I figured there is a reason everyone hates it, and I would like to know. Thanks in advance.
I hate it because it's too easy. I hate it becuase it makes game developers make games for the lowest common denominator aka people too stupid to play a complex sandbox. I hate it because once you max your levels your done. I hate it because it has an end. I hate it because the graphics are cheese. I hate it because it's simplistic, linear and unimaginative.
Nunez1212 Do not listen to Copeland's uninspired bullshit rant about WoW. I am about to counter all the garbage that he just typed for you.
I hate it because it's too easy.
Ok this one is easy. Anyone who boast WoW is to easy are generally smacktards. These are the people who rush on up to the max level, (which is easy enough) but either can't hack end game, or they lack the skills to even do end game in the first place. WoW is as complex and hard as ANY other MMO on the market and in some cases harder. Nunez to test this out, just go and google WoW Jutsu. This site will tell you how many guilds have downed the last 3 bosses of Sunwell. You will find not many, last I checked it was 34 guilds. That is 34 guilds spanning EVERY server on US and EU. Seems REAL EASY doesn't it. 34 guilds out of prolly in upwards of 40,000+ guilds can do this. Man I wish they would make WoW harder.
I hate it becuase it makes game developers make games for the lowest common denominator aka people too stupid to play a complex sandbox.
Hmmm, lowest common denominator. This one is funny. WoW was made for the casual, anytime anyone crowd. It trumps any game on the market sub numbers 10 fold. From a business point of view AND a gamer/consumer point of view it is pretty obvious that the "lowest common denominator" or "stupid people" are far greater than the mythical "sandbox player". It would appear these people are the HUGE majority.I hate it because once you max your levels your done.
As in all MMO's the job is never done. Just because you reach 70 and think your done. You are not. Unless you are in the 34 guilds I spoke of earlier, your not done by a long shot. Even if you are in one of those 34 guilds you still have tons to do. You have to max out 2 professions, and 3 general professions. You have about 30 factions you can get rep with. You have arenas to win, and bg's to slay opponents in. Also as in all other MMO's expansions are on the way to give you a few more bosses to try and down. More areas to explore, and so on. This statement was bs.I hate it because it has an end.
MMO's have no end. None of them do, that is what makes them MMO's. Worlds that stream on forever to waste your life in because the one you live in real life fails.I hate it because the graphics are cheese.
This one is strictly a matter of opinion. It has a style all it's own. It might also be hard to believe but there are some people out there that prefer anime/cartoon style over high poly/res realistic look.I hate it because it's simplistic, linear and unimaginative.
Simplistic, it is easy to learn, easy on the user. I don't know if you got the memo, but usually easier is better! That is why staples has an easy button.Linear, This guy doesn't know the meaning of linear, or else he wouldn't have typed it. The world is open which is the opposite of linear. Instanced dungeons may be linear but then again, they have to be. who wants to run into a dungeon that has no end or no bounderies. How would you ever know what your objectives were? This is another bs statement.
Unimaginative, it is true wow took the best elements from all MMO's before it, tweeked it, polished it, perfected it, and gave it a name. It is also true that WoW is based loosely on Warhammer art. However it is the first game to do what it has done. That would be a great game with solid game mechanics, good lore (for those who take the time to explore it) and fun gameplay. Unimaginative, maybe, does that really matter tho considering the scope of the game..... not to many.... not to most.
Is WoW your first MMO? It sure sounds like it.
Yes lowest common denominator = sub numbers. Casual aka easy
Once you max your levels you're done. What you gonna do raid the same thing over again? grind rep? WoW that's fun! Sorry already did that for 7 years in another game. NO thanks.
The game is very simplistic and totally linear. Don't let your little open world fool you. Your open world is TINY. It's not as linear as LOTRO but it is most definately linear.
Wow took the simplist elements of mmo's, slapped on a coat of borrowrd warhammer textures, cut and pasted it's lore into the dialogue boxes and somehow every player that never succeeded at any other mmo because it took time and a little sense figured out that all they had to do was follow the path and kill 10 boars to be accomplish something in WoW.
WoW is pathetic. It's probably the worst MMO i've ever played. Sure everything works fine and as intended but it offers NOTHING to anyone who ever played UO, EQ or DAOC.
It bores me to no end. It's hardly even worth typing all this about. This is why you don't see me in the WoW forum flaming the game.
I'm glad you like it. I'm glad you have a game to enjoy. This thread is about why people hate WoW. You can either accept why i hate it or you can continue trying to make a point that nobody cares about.
Oh and BULLSHIT is thinking you can counter an opinion LOL

Am I missing something, or is there zero customization at character creation? I choose a race and a class, then I hit next and it goes to the character select screen. Can I even change my hair color? Does everyone of the same race look exactly the same now?You just don't know how to do it. There are at least 50 slider bars that customize almost every aspect of your character.
Actually i just went through it again. There are exactly 25 slider bars.

I haven't played VG since about 1 month after it's realease. No real desire to come back. The 2 real things that killed it for me were bugginess and the content seemed quite frankly sophmoric.
examples: Quest - "Kill" flying books and loot thier pages...... Excuse me, when did I walk onto the set of a Monty Python episode?
Quest - My dog likes cocktrice livers, go kill some for me.... C'Mon Dev's hire my 6 year old son, he has a better imagination then that. At least put some attempt at rationale for your quest designs.
Quest - I need to build a cabinet for my wife...go kill some Treants for me and loot the lumber from them...... C'mon NPC, you are standing 5ft away from an entire thicket of trees...and they don't actualy swing back when you take an axe to them. Designer..... could you REALLY not think of a better quest rationale then that? How about the Treants are threatening lumber-jacks working the forest... or are disrupting trade because they don't want the road going through the forest cleared.... or attacking the caravans when they stop to camp and set campfires...... there, was that too hard?
It just seemed like the Dev's were tossing stuff in with little rhyme or reason or thought...just so they would have something to fill up space.
No thanks I'll stick with LOTRO where you actualy have decent, mature lore....and reading the quest descriptions doesn't make you feel like you WANT to bang your head into a brick wall repeatedly.
Yeah LOTRO isn't bad. It's just small, linear and simplistic. It held my interest longer than WoW though.

1.5 years ago I was a VG fanboi listening to Sigil's lies; I was seeing a huge world with potential. Sadly, to me the game almost hasn't improved after 1.5 years. (performance has always been good for me, even in beta and during the first month after release, before I quit the game). The game still lacks atmosphere due to its very poor/minimal engine and it looks like 50% of its designers are only amateurs. Some things are really good, but so many are poorly done. This is very sad as it could be one of the very best mmos out there. As it is now I don't even want to play it for free (got the free month but can't make myself login even though I tried 10 or 20 times during 3 days, the game's execution is one of the worst I have seen... I can't make myself login into this unpolished world).
VG has some very poor lightning. It doesn't even have proper shadows. Nothing apart from characters and trees has a shadow in this game - world objects, houses etc.. have no shadow. The game looks great at night, but during the day it looks fake/bland due to the lack of shadows. We are in 2008, this is a 2007 game, hellooo?
Then, there is almost no lightning. I.ex lights, fires, etc... have no light hallos. Things like fireplaces light hallos in the distance at night make for some great atmosphere. VG has nothing like this.
Then, there are almost no world particle effects. Things like birds in the skies, butterflies (I am not talking about mobs, this is about "atmosphere") etc... are almost inexistant in this game. Again, this is about world life and atmosphere, where is it?
And where are the things like water reflections, etc... , the today mmorpg game engine basic features?
Then, there is no life in this world. I see dead cities in a soulless world. NPCs don't live there. The game lacks the basic scripting that gives life to mmo worlds.
Also, characters look like plastic barbie dolls and the armor doesn't look fun. I don't want to go out there and work for hours to level and get or craft the stuff. I can't "connect" with my character. This is one of the most important mmorpg basic features - character improvement - that is lacking here.
Finally, VG has some of the poorest animations I have seen. The character running looks so bad, it seems the characters don't fit in the world, they seem out of sync. The fighting animations are so slow... And for Chists sake, WHAT is this ridiculously gay jumping animation?
So, the bottom line for me is that after more than 1.5 years the VG game world polish is still only 25% there at most. I see dead cities in a soulless world with no atmosphere. Compared to this some other games like Lotro or Aoc feel so much more immersive and alive. When I play an mmorpg I am of course looking for some gameplay, but the other 50% I am looking for is a world to immerse myself into. Atmosphere. VG doesn't have this, yet.
Funny i know of one game that had all that. Saga of Ryzom. Now closed because they couldn't get anyone to play. Maybe you should have played it then you'd have what you want and they'd have a population.
Aside from questing, what do you spend most of your time doing in-game?
