Yeah Wurm Online can be a bit difficult to get into, when I first started playing I didn't expect it to be such advanced game or what I should say. So I player for an hour or two, then logged of but in lack of doing other things I tried it the day after and I asked around ingame (many helpfull players) and I found another player which let me live with him in his settlement while he taught me the basics.
What got the hooked to the game was that the game is almost totally player controled, that you can actually change the world when you do something.
If you are still interrested, check out my short review here.
Good luck. If it's not the game for you then I hope you find one that is.

Hey you can try out Wurm Online the game is almost fully player controled.
You can set up somewhere alone, or join a village. The resources are also limited in the world, meaning that once you dig up enough dirt and hit the mountain rock and make a cave there is only so much metal in the big mountain with mostly rocks only. And you could cut down all the trees (which would take a long long long time though) and no more would grow, there is some people who try to rescue the trees (kind of like in real life) and encourage people to dig up peat, tar and other natural burning resources from the ground.
You can shape the ground as you wish, make a steep hill or a flat area or a bumpy one if you like that. Build a house and create a farm which can grow you hemp, corn, potato, rye, cotton and much more which you can then sell, use yourself or just fill up your storage with.
I've also posted more details here.
Good luck and I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do!
PS: the Wurm forums are currently down, but will open in a few days. if you want to talk to the community meanwhile there is a #wurm channel on the Heavenly Place Network.
