    • Two Questions.
    • Minimum: Windows® 2000/XP, Pentium® III 1 Ghz or greater, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9 Compatible video card. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64MB of texture memory, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, 56k Internet Connection, 16x DVD-ROM, 10GB Hard Drive Space.

Recommended: Windows® 2000/XP/Vista, Pentium® 4 2 Ghz or greater, 1 GB RAM, DirectX 9 Compatible video card. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 128MB of texture memory or greater, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, Broadband Internet Connection, 16x DVD-ROM, 10GB Hard Drive Space.

Keep in mind that EQII is more CPU intensive than GPU intensive. I'm running on a five year old system (the closes to the 'recommended' specs).

      2.8Ghz Pen 4
      2G RAM
      GeForce 7800 (256 RAM)

With a little tweaking to the 7800 card (3D Settings) and setting EQII to Above Normal in Task Manager I get on average 28 to 30+ FPS in Gorowyn, Kelethin and 18 to 24 FPS in Neriak (provided I don't crash). These figures vary whether I'm running something in the back ground (Firefox browser) to Ventrilo.

I'm running on High Performance with a few adjustments on LOD and the like. If I shut most things down in Start Up and I don't run Vent, I can gain another 2 to 4 FPS (while using Above Normal in Task Manager).

I also can gain 2 to 6 FPS if I don't run Vent or run off my X-Fi Sound Blaster, interesting but true. I use my Plantronics or Logitech headsets with their own built in controller allowing me to bypass the X-Fi Card.

Not having RoK will create some limitations for you.

      Everquest II
    • Ok, enough - I am turning my back on MMORPG.com, it has degenerated too far
    • A simple rule to remember, people are people and that's all there is to it. A few things to keep in mind, forums of any kind provides a captive audience, which makes for a great breeding ground for people to express their ideas under the safety of the internet. In other words while on the net people feel a sense of anonymity. Like alcohol, anonymity can be the elixir of self-doubt and inhibition.

While online people can take on any persona they like, however your words and how you articulate them can give you away. With a little experience you can determine who is objective, subjective, absurd and irrational. These 'perspectives' can vary from any number of ideological, cultural, political or philosophical beliefs.

The best rule of thumb while on the net or in real life is simply to be yourself. The internet is a wonderful invention that brings a lot of people together, but like anything else it has the potential to bring out the worst in people. You can't let the few ruin it for the many.

    • EverQuest II: Vivox Voice Chat on EQII Test Server

I suppose this is coming across with a bit of sarcasm as Role Play has been completely stripped as an acronym from MMO's all together. I've played in Team Speak and Vent for a number of years, what I'd be interested in is whether this will reduce in-game Lag. I notice that when I play EQII with Vent I lose as much as 8 FPS and encounter a good bit of stuttering while in major cities. I do have an older system 2.8Ghz, Pen4, 3G RAM, 7800 GeForce and SounBlaster X-Fi, however I hope this new system helps with performance.

I've not tried this out on the Test Server, but I do like that it will have multi channel capability and hopefully distinct channels for Private Chat and Guild.

How do you feel about advertising inside games?

I think they should advertise whatever they want
It is OK so long as it is in the context of the game
This is just wrong, no ads in games...period.
