    • What MMO Was/Is Better Than AC1?
    • I never played Everquest.  But I was introduced to AC by a player who had played Everquest and said AC was far better.  And when he said this he was comparing release Everquest to beta AC.  So it seems some people don't fall in love with their first.   That idea definitely fits me though.  AC was my first and no MMO since has captivated me.

Me and said friend have actually started playing AC again as of a week now.  After 7 years of being away.

      Asheron's Call
    • Ac1 could happen again
    • In AC2 there were defined classes that you had to choose from.  There weren't as many quests, and the ones that did exist you were strongly guided towards.  There was instancing if I remember correctly.  The world also felt smaller and more closed off and linear.  I didn't feel like I could explore the world much.  It just wasn't as vast, open, and free-form as the original game.

The graphics were pretty nice.  Ahead of its time.  But graphics don't make a game fun.

    • Sandbox =/= no story

I don't want to be in an mmo that holds my hand and walks me from point A to B to C to.. well you get it. But I also don't want to be in a barren wasteland of nothingness where I can just open some shop for others, who have no quests to really go on making many of my items kind of pointless or something.
I want a fully realized living world where everyone's got a story. Be what you wanna be, do what you wanna do. Lots of quests to undertake, and so much to do otherwise...
I think games are starting to realize this type of 'world' slowly.

I think they are moving AWAY from this type of world. This sort of thing was already done with Asherons Call. Plenty of quests out there to do if you wanted to, or if you just happened to come across them. None of them were required or forced upon you. You were not hand-held/led to them. They were just out there in the wilderness waiting. On top of this, there was a lot of lore that you could read up on and discover if you wanted. There were overall epic story arcs that were implemented with monthly events/updates. You could take part if you wanted, or do your own thing and ignore the story and lore. Though, it would be hard to not notice that something was going on. One month the skies turned red, the oceans and rivers turned to blood, fire creatures spawned in the wilderness, towns were sometimes raided by monsters... Another month an entire town was decimated.

I was playing this game 10 years ago.

Now MMORPGs play like single player games more and more.
