    • HellGate: London: Review
    • I'll fill in details about it that people keep mentioning. I'm probably repeating this, but eh, I'm not up to reading 6 pages of 'thanks for the review' alternating with 'if you can't do it right, shut up' posts. So here's what I saw people asking most in the 3-4 pages I got through.

Travel- it is all on foot. However, you have a portal system. devices that act as town portal scrolls for one, and then portals in 'towns' to get to various zones, and one in each to go from town to town (Essentially the waypoint pad in Diablo 2)

Movement- WASD. When he says he played it as a FPS and had a blast, that's exactly what he meant. Hotkeys on number bars, WASD movement, quick hotkeys on Q and E for your main skills, left and right click attacks, etc. Personally I like to have left button left hand, and right button right hand, and a gun in each on my marksman.
That lets you fire the right weapon with right button, and left with left, or jsut hold both to spray an area.

Ranged classes have no ammo stat. Unlimited shot, various weapons have rates of fire to determine how much carnage you can make.

Crafting is in the game, sortof. Items are very upgradeable, I am using the same guns on my level 20 marksman I've had since the beginning levels.

Tilesets are VERY redundant. No variety whatsoever, it gets old really fast. But if you like blowing things up, it's all good. Once you've filled an area with smoke and dust from the carnage, it all looks the same anyhow.

Memory leaks and ram. the game requires a gig of ram to play even decently, 2 or more for good gameplay. If you have Vista, don't forget 1 of that is your OS. Like most FPS games with alot of players, you need a ton of ram in your PC to play it well, and 2GB just isn't a ton of ram anymore.

Well, there you go, I think that's about all. if not, too bad. LOL. I'm not paid for this, so this all the time I'm spending. Enjoy the game. if you got more questions- grab the demo off fileplanet.

    • What the heck is a "NEXT-GEN" mmorpg?
    • Honestly it's a buzz word that developers love to use to hype themselves up. Wow, EQ2, Vanguard were refinements of EQ1, which was a refinement of Muds. I'm not even sure there's ever been a truly next gen game, as each 'gen' just adds a few things, tweaks a few things, and calls it next gen.

    • Way to start screwing with the lore before the game's even really begun guys. Come on, if you can't even stick to the lore with even one of the PC races... gah. Yet another example of why liscenced IPs won't ever work- idiot developers who think they know more than the original creators AND the fan-base combined.

    • Sony should foot the bill to Finish Dev and run VG
    • REALITY CHECK 2 moron. Houses HAVE been in since launch. I was in beta, and I was there when they finished them. Guild houses were not. Player houses, yes. Whoever told you they were taxis is a liar, flying mount coding was also in beta. Aradune himself often travelled on a dragon in beta. The quests and such to get them was not in until this last year, but the game has had the capability from launch. And B- it was NOT SOE's fault. Deal with it loser. Brad might have been a great game designer, but a great manager, hardly. MS gave him millions. He blew it all, and STILL was neither on time, or on budget. SOE bailed his sorry a$$ out, and he failed again. SOE gave him millions more, and plenty of time. IE 'when it's done'. HE is the one who ran out of money, due to incompitence, and failed the community he had lied to from the start. Face it pal, SOE is hardly the good guys, but on this one, they're innocent. They went far and above what any sane corperation would have to save Vanguard. Personally I'd have simply chucked the whole mess like MS and washed my hands of it soon as I got a look at Brad's "Management" skills. The entire mess was Sigil's fault. You're too stupid to see that, then not my problem. The only fanboi here is you. Any intelligent person who could read would have seen the mess Brad made of everything and would have the IQ to actually comprehend who screwed up here. You, apparently, do not. Bye bye Idiot.

      ...wait, what???

Warcraft was based off of Warhammer.

um...no.  Was it similar?  Sure.  Was it possibly a complete rip off?  maybe.  Was it the Warhammer IP?  absolutely not.

Well..that's what they just said. As for maybe, that's a no go though. Blizzard admitted as much. Their first idea was to make a Warhammer PC game, but that's WAY back when PC games were new. Games Workshop said no way (Dumb idea on their part) and so the Blizzard guys changed it just enough so they couldn't get sued Warcraft Orcs and Humans-Warhammer Orcs and Humans were 2 of the original factions. Even the dwarves with the scottish accents and muskets are out of Warhammer. Check some of the old brochures from games Workshop for yourself.

All of this is ancient history though, and totally beside the point. What the OP said is that they should take Star Trek, and 'Blizzardize' it like they did to Warhammer, and make a 'trek MMO'. that's it, and I'd have to agree. I'd love to see a Blizzard skill-based game. Could they do it? Sure. WOW is item-based because they went with the tried and true EQ model, that's all. Hardly anything new, but they polished it up better than any company before, that's what they do. They take old ideas, and make them right.

How do you feel about advertising inside games?

I think they should advertise whatever they want
It is OK so long as it is in the context of the game
This is just wrong, no ads in games...period.
