I think one of the bigger problems lies in the fact that on a lot of servers, including Fenrir, the one I played on, you waste tons of time trying to level your jobs, In fact I quit about 3 months after the ps2 release beacuse I spent so many hours lfg in a night, only to log off later because I couldnt find one. This would go on for days, and in some instances would go for more than a week. Thats extremely discouraging for players and frankly the main reason I quit the first time, and a good part of why I quit again the second time. I came back the second time because I really wanted to play a corsair, I mean really really wanted to play a corsair, and a friend of mine bribed me back into playing with promises of unlimited bullets he would make for me. So I did go back, and bam first thing, my first night I wait 3 hours for a group. But Im pretty tenacious and decided I wasnt going to quit until I had that corsair job unlocked. It was going to take me a while because I wanted to go the cor/ran route. So when I finally got my new toons warrior job up to 30, unlocked the ranger job, promptly got to 13 and headed out to Valkurm. Now heres where it got nasty. My first day in Valkurm, 5 hour wait, nothing, next day, same thing, next day, same thing, a WEEK later after soloing more worms than I wanted to ever see in my life, I said screw it, I wasted almost 30 hours LFG. So again I quit.
What they really need to do is merge the servers, when reading various forums regarding FFXI, you'll hear the same problem all the time. Hard to get people to participate in endgame if they cant get there in the first place.

Honestly GW is one of the only games with a decent skill system and technical pvp. Its one of the only online rpg where pvp might be considered e sport sicne what matters isnt your set that took 10k hours to farm, but the way your team works. So yeah GW might be considered as a hardcore online game unlieke wow where the pvp is just another place to show how hard you grind.
Id have to say shadowbane is on that level of technical skills. In some cases a smart level 50 can kill a 75. Heck Ive even seen smart pvp'rs solo a group of people.

I am always amazed over how so many "gloss" over the whole sentence, and pick the one part they wish to use.
Oh you dont say mr Openedge1 ;)
(double irony ftw)
QFT!
GW is hardcore but CAN be played casually /LMAO. This "rule" (chuckles) can be applied to just about any game, let alone MMO.
GW is the king of casual. That doesn't mean its bad but puhlease.

Yes, we can apply this to any game
Because AoC is for Hardcore/Casual (oh wait Hardcore have already left)
Because LOTRO is for Hardcore/Casual (oh wait Hardcore already left)
Because Tabula Rasa is for Hardcore/Casual (oh wait Hardcore already left)
Because Hellgate is for...oh wait...everyone left
And now the casuals are even leaving AoC
And WoW, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, etc. continue to dominate with both sides of the tracks...
Why? They are just better games and cater to both crowds.
Errrr, WoW might continue to dominate and that has nothing to do with quality. Britney Spears sold a lot of records FYI. Its really hilarious how you try to lump L2 and GW in with WoW. Sorry to rain on your parade but GW and L2 are not in the same class. L2 has around 700K subs. That's pretty good, but not in WoW's class. GW doesn't have subs because it isn't an MMO and you aren't a "hardcore" gamer just FYI.
How do you know who left? Did someone poll everyone and ask if they were "hardcore" gamers. I play over 100 hours a week and have done since UO. I have been playing Lotro for over a year now. I am in a kin of over 250 people who raid 4 x a week and are very active in PvP. I wouldn't describe us as "hardcore" because that definition is just e-p**n waving. We are dedicated to the game and continue to derive a great deal of enjoyment from it over a year after its inception.

100 hours a week? Shammalammadingdong! thats crazy!
Yah, I play far too much. Even when Im working I usually have the game open. Luckily I work from home :)
S
Im secretly just jealous, before I got married and had kids, I was hardcore. Now Im just too tired to roll like I used to.

About the charge: if a 18+ year old is whining about paying $2,99/€2,99 then they need to get a job or something.
Don't be a fool. No one is complaining about the cost, it's that FC are charging people for a "free" trial, unlike any MMO I'm aware of. It's not like AoC is getting good word of mouth either, this just adds fuel to the fire.
Stop generalizing differing opinions childishly and realize that charging people to play a trial is greedy, and not with general precedent. For a game on shaky legs, charging people to trial after they charged the original purchaser what? 90 bucks for the CE? C'mon.
Well i dont see it as greedy, theyre recouping download costs. Dont like it, dont pay it. Theyre giving people a low cost option to try the game, thats good. Yeah it would be better free but i wouldnt bust a bloodvein over it. Just because i dont see it as a big deal im looking at it childishly? ah well.
Some people will defend this game no matter what. It s a trial there shouldn t be a cost at all. Just shows anyone who s considering this crapfest of a game to not play it because this is the beginning of you getting scamed even more down the road.
Nearly as much of a scam for paying for a lifetime sub and not being able to cancel when things go bad and you want out.
Some people will bash this game no matter what, any negative angle that can be taken they will take it for the sake of it. obviously people are still subbing, and people are willing to pay $3 to try it out for a week.
Saves box cost by a lot.
Well I still feel majorly cheated with the CE box. I expected buddy keys. Not a couple of months after but at launch. They should have been upfront and honest about this (and much much other stuff).
There is no way I would want to use my buddy keys now and I don't play. And Avery it is pretty sick they ask people in a globalized world to use your cd's. Where did it say that when they accepted preorders; that the buddy keys could only be used with the CDs? And now they want to charge for a download?
This company is run by douchebags. Oh and liars.
And you know it.
QFT, in fact if I ever had to pick a moment in my life where the term QFT was the most appropriate and applicable, this is it.
