SO, its been awhile since Ryzom has returned from the dead. I've walked the streets of Pyr, Fairhaven, Yrkanis and Zora once more. I have rejoined people I had grown used to seeing daily or chatting with endlessly. And at the same time I've met new people trying out Ryzom for the first time since it is now free to play temporarily. It has given me time to consider what I've always liked about the game and its pitfalls as well. First, you have to love the diversity. On any given day I can craft, harvest, swing my huge axe or sword or conjure any number of spells to defend my teammates or while I'm out exploring on my own.
I've learned over the years not to get caught up "grinding" away a certain skill or skill tree, this can get old really fast. Instead, i approach each return trip with looking for something different today. Maybe join a team trekking new players to another region, maybe go off on my own and harvest a good supply of materials to be crafted another day. I could join another team and level up a certain skill like healing, elemental or melee. And even have those days I sit in some public house and just chat with friends or answer new player questions for awhile.
Yeah Ryzom gives me the diversity of play i've grown to enjoy. I also enjoy that this is one game where the term "Uber" hardly ever applies to anyone. I'm just as likely to rush to the aid of a highly skilled guildmate needing a res as they are more likely to come to my aid. The thing is Atys makes us all equal to a certain extent. Very few MMO's out there do that nowadays.
While armor and weapons may "look" the same we all know that is hardly the case. Our crafting system allows for so much diversity that "sameness" doesn't live here on Atys.
On the dark-side of the coin I, like many homins, want to the Encyclopedia quests finished along with many of the original plans for Ryzom that were never completed and implemented. I'd love to see a huge return to the lore of Ryzom, which won an award not to long ago. No need to add Bug fixes here thats a gimme on any game. I mentioned earlier the "grinding" problem. Since Ryzom is a sandbox type game its really easy to get caught in this trap. I've seen far too many other players get burnt out trying to attain that lofty goal of mastering a skill or mulitple skills and forgetting there is a wealth of things to see and do in game, IF your willing to seek it out.
So those are some of my personal thoughts at least. In closing all I can say is its good to be home again.

For all of Ryzom's faults and signs of age, this kind of attitude is timeless. Tip o' the hat is all my fellow players and their tireless efforts to increase our playerbase through kindness, understanding and good gamemenship.

Thanks for the comments, they may be something the new owners will look into.
I hope you can still enjoy the gameplay regardless of the problems you mentioned, maybe some of the offered advice will help there.
If some of us seem defensive well, it is just that we have an old friend (Ryzom) back and remeeting people we have missed.

I hope this means you will stay with us for good now! It is refreshing to have gotten both the good and the bad from your reviews. While your "needs to be fixed" review got alot of heavy traffic I am hoping this review gets just as much, even though most of us agree with you wholeheartedly on this one.
Many of us have missed Ryzom and the close bounds we formed before its shutdown and while this has made us appreciate its return it has had the ill effect of blasting anyone who sees the flaws in the game. Yes, we know they are there and yes we want them corrected but, lately the attitude seems to be don't tell us about them and to heck with someone who does.
Your two-sided reviews are what we need both new and returning vets to work on so we can possibly help these new owners get it right this time and put Saga of Ryzom up there in the listings where it should be.
Again, thanks for your insight both for and against. And I urge all players to read both sides and move forward for the sake of the game.

Sorry to say but, I have never heard anything so stupid in my life. Sounds like "if i can't be number one then give me a server where I can be". Look if you know anything about the game then you know this simple fact, without experienced crafters out there keeping us in great gear as we progress, that progression would be even longer and more frustrating for players. The simple fact that new players can join with old experienced players and recieve the benefit of their game knowledge and skills, makes the entire game experience for that new player all the more enjoyable.
Try thinking about being in game at skill level 50 in magic and no one can make you a set of qual 75 Light Armor with boosts or a decent pair of amps to make life easier. Wait you know you can do this if you want to also spend tons of time digging and crafting your skills so they can somehow be equal when you need them. Seriously, most players would not want to wait that long and prefer leveling up their craft and foraging skills once they have reached a point in fighting or magic to survive the areas the need to level in.
To be fair , maybe i'm missing something in this thread but, I don't think so.
Devs, keep things as they are and if someday Ryzom needs another server, then add one if the cost permit it.
