Daybreak Pulling the Plug

Daybreak Games Company has announced that it is pulling the plug on PlanetSide. The server will be shutting down on July 1st at 4:00 pm Pacific / 7:00 pm Eastern. According to the team the closure is "due to evolving business needs and technical requirements". All present and former players are invited to give the game the send off it deserves in the coming weeks.


Now Celebrating 10 Years

Sony Online Entertainment is inviting all former PlanetSide subscribers to come back for a tenth anniversary celebration. As an enticement, all paying players of the past will receive a complimentary six-month subscription.


Gameplay with Matt Higby and Tramell Isaac this Thursday!

This Thursday (6/28), our own Rob "Grakulen" Lashley will play some Planetside 1 while chatting with Planetside 2's Matt Higby and Tramell Isaac about the ways in which PS1 influenced PS2, and what we can expect from the highly anticipated sequel. The countdown is over! Sony Online Entertainment has unveiled PlanetSide 2 on the official PlanetSide 2 website.


Producer's Letter Released

PlanetSide Next Producer Andrew Sites has released an early copy of his inaugural letter to PlanetSide Universe. Sites introduces himself as coming to the team just over a month ago. He then reveals that the PSN team has been expanding and that several members from the original PlanetSide team have been brought back on board to create the next-gen PlanetSide Next.


Next Expanding in Face of Closures

Sony Online Entertainment's John Smedley has confirmed that the Planetside: Next team is expanding even in the face of over 200 layoffs and the closure of three of SOE's studios in Tucson, Denver and Seattle. This astonishing revelation was given to Planetside-Universe.com editors in a call to Mr. Smedley.


Terran Soldier Revealed

Planetside Universe scored another screenshot from the Planetside Next dev team during a chat on Saturday afternoon. This time, the Terran Republic soldier is revealed.

Sony's John Smedley has released a new PlanetSide Next image to PlanetSide Universe. The image features the Mosquito ship. In addition, the AGN will be sharing another exclusive on a broadcast scheduled for tomorrow evening.

First Render Displayed

Sony Online's John Smedley has 'tweeted' the URL of the first render from the recently revealed Planetside Next (working title). The image shows what's being called an NC Tank. Check it out below and then let us know your thoughts.


Smedley on Release

Sony Online Entertainment's John Smedley has given a general release date for PlanetSide Next, the sequel to PlanetSide. According to an interview at Eurogamer, Smedley is figuring on a late Q1 - early Q2 release for PlanetSide Next, the working title for the sequel.
