Guys you have to remember that FF14 is a mmorpg and it can't ever look like singleplayer games plus it's still using an old (updated) engine from waaaay back thus old low resolution textures. If you compare with other mmorpg's, you will see that FF14 is visually pretty good.

They might have a brand new engine (like they say), but if you've tried both versions, the game mechanics and most visuals (effects etc.) are the same. With some companies you never know, they can build a game engine on top of old one's code and call it new (which it feels like they did).

Also, visual effects are not the same and have all been changed.  Water is different, there are none of the weather effects from version 1.0 like windy weather, snowstorms, even rain looks completely different.  All the spells look entirely different.  Lighting is completely different.  There is no bloom anymore.  And the way the light reflects (or doesn't reflect as is the case in ARR) off armour is different also.  Basically everything is different except the models & some animations.  All they did was import the models.

Anyway, the original point is that the graphics of this game would have looked better in the original Crystal Tools engine, and frankly Eir_S has a point.
