seems we all have mixed thoughts on goth people

Goth is basically the scrapings left over from when it was cool to be different. Now its mainstream, commercialized, and paradoxical. Why? you ask? Simple If everyone is trying to be different, theyre all the same. Uniquity comes from not confining yourself inside a "genre". Be yourself, its better than doing what the media has brainwashed you to think about yourself.

Emo is the new goth. Pfff. Goth is so 1995. Ditch the white and black makeup and get yourself some thick black rectangle framed non-perscription glasses and start listening to simple plan. Goths are ugly. Peace.

Goth is an attitude.  A world perception.  The clothing / style was an expression of that attitude, not Goth itself.  Idealistically, being Goth is/was a way to express that you're fundamentally different from most people around you. Not physically or some such nonsense, but in the way that you perceive the world.

It does not mean that you're "emo", nor that you necessarily love death; though Goth types do tend to see the beauty that lies within the macabre.

We don't (typically) laugh at the same jokes, nor like what's presented in popular culture (movies, music, et al).  We seem rude, cold, and distant because we often perceive pop culture as shallow, stupid, and exploitive and as a result we don't relate with popular jokes and references (and are likely to sneer at them).

You don't have to dress a certain way to be Goth. Doing so is merely embracing it and others like yourself.  Goth is not about being alone, but being you.  It's the way that you feel and the way that you see the world.

You either are or you're not, and it doesn't matter either way how much (or how little) black clothing / make up you put on.

I agree with Mysk.. and emo is'nt the new goth.. Goth you always have the attitude even if you stopped wearing the clothes... and Emo is just a new commercial shit that will be forgotten in a few years.. i don't think most Emo will still be Emo at 25 years old

Goth is just another way for wierdos to feel self important. We all think differently, were all different. Goth is an ego booster. it says "Im different from you, and thus better than you.

Sad that people have to shove their uniquity in their face, especially when theyre not unique at all.

Buddhism teaches that this kind of ego gratification is wrong, and that realizing you are part of a whole is part of making yourself a better person.

Goth is so 1995? Try 1985. I have nothing against people and their choices for dressing and makeup etc. (as long as they keep their damned pants pulled up, fucking retards letting their pants hang off their asses is recockulous) However all these different subsections of people just rotate styles every few years. When you're in school is the easiest time to see these rotations as they move macro-cosm fast. As a freshman in HS the style was goth,  by my Jr year is was the cowboy look, and my senior year it was grunge. My kids told me the same thing when they went to highschool a few years later. (step-kids).

These people aren't being unique, they're just recycle, old, and tired.

And pull your damn pants up, how the hell do you expect to run from the police with your pants hanging off your ass.
