Of the hundreds of damaging hurricanes that hit the east/gulf coast of the USA very few actually hit the east coast above Florida and make it to land in New England. It's a big deal because it's still dangerous and will do a lot of damage to people's lives. It's a "big deal" to them.

 I'd be lying if it weren't a big deal to me, since last one to make it up this far and hit us was Jaun a few years back, and that one knocked my power out for close to 2 weeks..
