I think it was funnier when I saw Necron on #1 for daily 48 hours ago...

Or maybe Darkfall payed MMORPG.com to make some fake result in order to help them gather some players.

I guess Varth never read the MMORPG.com articles that have said they admit  giving some indie devs more credit than they are due sometimes.

It's also well known that some game reviewers accept "gifts" sometimes. So basically, this "bug" doesn't surprise me.

I find it extremely amusing that anyone actually cares about "hit manipulation."

To mrcalhou: I find it both extremely amusing and pathetic that someone would actively attempt to manipulate the hit counter in the first place.  Yet, someone did.

Odd that a game that ended with almost 55,000 hits yesterday has less than 1,600 today after being caught cheating.

Calling it a bug is a manufactured excuse.  The numbers for Darkfall were almost the only numbers affected in such a way, and it's been happening consistently for at least the last 7 or 8 months.  Yeah, obviously not a bug.  It was intentional.  So, what kind of person would do that?

I've seen it happen to games that are practically dead from old age.  I highly doubt those companies are going to care enough any more to pop open the coffers for something as stupid as MMORPG.com's hit counter.  In other words, it's a bug, not a conspiracy against gamers.

People need to relax, hating Darkfall was cool years ago, before, and while, it crashed and burned.  Now it just reeks of desperation and an inability to let go (especially on this level).

It has happened to other games as well, no question.  Games like Neocron, Entropia, and Asheron's Call 2 have all inexplicably gotten 30K+ hits in a single day within the last 9 months.  But - and this is a huge difference - these types of random games benefit from this "bug" very, very infrequently, perhaps once every month or two.

Darkfall, on the other hand, was benefitting from the spam several days out of every week.  Take a look at its totals for the last month, as an example.  There is absolutely no rationale - given the lack of forum activity, lack of news stories, lack of feature articles - to conclude that Darkfall would have 200K+ more hits than games like SWTOR or GW2, which have both been hyped recently more than any game in the last 3 years.

That's why the random game, like Neocron or AC2, do not have 2+ million hits over the last 6 months.  Because they were not being regularly spammed.  Darkfall, on the other hand, was being spammed almost every day.  For anyone watching, it was really easy to see.

In any event, day two since they were caught cheating, and Darkfall has less than 1100 hits, and is obviously not in the Top 10 again.
