I've always disliked lens flare effects added to, well, anything.
I see it as a visual element that shouts "you're not here".
I remember seeing nature documentaires when I was younger and the lens flare then put me off. Thankfully, the TV world has left that aspect behind, yet the gaming world is embracing it.
Very strange.
