Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan has taken to the airwaves with the latest developer video blog. In it, Kaplan lays out the design decisions behind the overhaul of Symmetra, one of Overwatch's support heroes.
The team felt that Symmetra was too much of a "situational use character" without enough broad utility, hence leading to many of the changes. Among other things, Symmetra will be given a second ultimate. She will retain access to her teleporter but will also have a shield generator that makes shields for each team member. Her old shield ability is being replaced with the Photon Barrier, a floating barrier that teammates can move along behind. She can also set up turrets more quickly and efficiently and her weapon can shoot from further away.
The PTR will also be updated with Oasis, a new map, and a new social feature called Stay with the Group.
