Ragnarok Online : Yet again... hacked

Posted Aug 07, 2003 by Matthew Fusco

Yet again Ragnarok On-line was hacked.  This time the hackers gained GM privileges in the international servers.  It all started on August 3rd, when a message was sent out incognito.  The message stated a number of false new improvements in the game on the international servers.  On August 4th,  it happened again.  Another message was sent throughout the servers,  this time it was clearly not be an employee of Gravity Corp.  On that day, a number of rare items were popping up with GM powers and leaked to one of two servers.  Gravity also suffered from a number of user account losses, but it is unknown if the losses were connected to the hackings.

Gravity Corp. will not be rolling back servers to get the game back in balance,  but only removing a number of rare items on the server.  The six items scheduled for deletion are as follows: vitata cards, mistress cards, baphomet cards, whisper cards, and crown. In compensation for the deletion of the items, a character status reset will be implemented as an option for a limited time on all the game servers, accessible with a nominal amount of in-game money.

The international service of RO is currently eight (8) months behind the Asia service in terms of updates.  The lack of current updates and security made this server an easy target for hackers.
