World of Warcraft : Check the Calendar. Yup. April 1

Posted Apr 01, 2006 by Jon Wood

I had to rub my eyes a couple of times when I get up this morning and looked at the World of WarCraft website. The lead article on the site introduced the new Alliance race: The Wisps. A little bit of further investigation, and a brief look at the calendar (yes, it's April Fool's Day), and I started to understand. I can not say with absolute certainty that it's a joke, but in the past, Blizzard has done some pretty elabourate things on this date to make a joke. I'm going to go out on a limb though, and call this a joke because of some of the info on the race if you click the link below.

Note:

  • The release lists Perma-Death as a Racial Trait.
  • It claims BILLIONS of possible color and FACIAL HAIR possibilities for customization...
  • Treeform Racial Trait: Gives the ability to turn into a TREE. Don't worry though, you're 50% less likley to dodge or parry axe attacks....

Still, judge for yourselves.

Blizzard is proud to officially announce the second new race of the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion set, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade - the mysterious wisps! At the Battle of Mount Hyjal, the Burning Legion gave the world a taste of its true, terrible power. Archimonde the Defiler himself led the vanguard, crushing all who stood in his way, determined to reach the World Tree at the mountain's peak. In the end, only one power was strong enough to destroy the insidious Archimonde: the Wisps.

Check out the new Alliance race on the Burning Crusade Website, and learn more about the wisps' historical background and their awe-inspiring racial ability: Detonate!

Blizzard also "annonced" that they would be opening a blizzard-themed resturant, BurgerCraft.
